fabia whining noise please help

Featured Replies

hello briskoda i was wondering if anybody could put me in the right direction for a trustworthy skoda repair specialist in manchester or perhaps help me with an engine issue?

my car is a fabia 1.4mpi "w" reg

the issue is this, when the car is idle it makes a light rattling sound, upon inspection (when facing the front of the car, on the left side of the engine where the cam belt is, the lower (cog-wheel) to the bottom half of the engine seems to be the cause of all the rattling.but it isnt loose an when the belt was removed my friend could find no fault with it and said it might need the engine replacing. worse case scenario that is (i hope not) as the car is my 2nd car in 4 months and im not that clever with mechanical issues I was wondering if the cost to fix is worth payin for as the car only cost £800

is this minor or major please help thank you

Got the same car and the same problem. Its the timing chain that makes the noise. Over time it gets loose and causes the rattling noise you mentioned. I asked my local Skoda dealers about getting it fixed, and they basically said for the money its not worth it, as it will get loose again over time (thats what he said anyway...). Oh well...'the noise goes away if I put me foot down!' :D

In short its not a massive problem, just an annoying thing that happens when you have an engine that uses a timing chain rather than a belt, no matter how more reliable they are.

ur post has put my mind at rest i was thinking the bottom end was goin so does urs still make the sound?are we safe? lol

Yeh it does. Did when I first bought it which was just over a year ago! :D

It is safe and after a while youll barely notice it. Put it this way, whats more durable, a chain or a rubber belt? Considering how much damage a timing belt/chain could do when it fails, Id ake the chain, even if it i means putting up with the noise.
