Removing Ceiling Light

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am trying to move the microphone for my aftermarket car kit. The wire comes between the ceiling light and the roof trim so I need to take the light unit out to hide some of the wire. How easy is this to do? Do I need any special tools?

Cheers

Philips screwdriver and a coin, or fingernails. Pop off the clear plastic cover over the bulbs prising it down from towards the windshield, then by the sides of the large festoon bulb you'll see two Philips screws you need to undo.

If it simply doesn't fall down pull it gently and it will come loose.

Thanks guys,

Will that drop the entire unit (switches and all) or just the light part?

I'm afraid that the weblink doesn't seem to work - could be my connection of course.

Thanks again.

The complete unit will come down, there will be a small piece of foam in the microphone slot. When removing the plastic light lens use a thin flat blade screwdriver and carefully prise it down from the front (nearest to the windscreen). The unit will still be attached by the wires, this can be unplugged if you need to completely remove the unit.

When you feed the microphone cable to the unit unclip the offside front pillar trim to pass it through (there are some holes which makes it easy for small cable ties) and it is easier to carefully push the cable into the headlining at the top of the windscreen rather than trying to undo the headlining.

Thanks Moley,

The car kit that I have fitted is a Bury 9060 - the problem is that the installer has put the microphone in such a place that I constantly see it in the rear view mirror so I want to move it further forward to were the ceiling slopes ups towards the windscreen.

I think it is unlikely that the mic will fit in the Skoda mic slot, but I will have a go - I also think that the mic is quite directional so that may not be the best option.

BTW the Bury CC9060 is a great piece of kit which integrates really well into the Octy. Wish I could say the same for the Connects2 iPod kit which I am having replaced...

I have a Nokia CK-7W kit in my Octy. I binned the speaker & connected it to the radio so that it cuts in when the phone rings. I stripped the mic housing down so that I was left with just the small mic piece, using a piece of filter foam I 'wedged' the mic into the slot and it works OK.

I can feel a project coming on... :)

When the slider switch decided to come apart on my interior light, i went to the scrappy and found another one, i followed the instructions for removal but could not get the light holder to drop so had to prise the whole thing out then with some difficult removed the plastic housing from the metal holder
