low cost mods are they worth it

Featured Replies

ive seen jabba sell anti roll bars for the fab vrs. Has anyone got experience of this on a standard vrs and will it make a difference to handling, tyre wear, comfort level despite still being on standard springs and dampers?

jabba also do the PD160 intake which looks fairly easy to fit. But would it give better torque/power with the standard rig inc paper filter? or am i wasting my money

Ive got both on my car and the anti roll bar does seem to reduce roll(as it says on the tin)

The pd160 intake on a standard car is probably a waste of money but wont do any harm if you decide to fit one.

The RARB is a brilliant modification and is worth every penny. The only downside I am aware of is it does make the car 'rock' more if one side passes over a bump and the other doesn't. This is a result of the car being more rigid and it is noticeable, but not annoying, and the reduction in roll through corners is very pronounced.

The other thing top be aware of is that it does seem to fundamentally change the car's behaviour at the limit of grip. The standard chassis is 100% tuned to understeer, but if you lift off the throttle in a RARB equipped car AT EXTREMELY HIGH CORNERING LOADS it will gently oversteer instead. You may like this or you may not. It doesn't matter normally because in normal use you're nowhere near maximum grip, but in an extreme situation, it drives like a more neutral car than standard, which is tuned to nose-plough straight ahead.

I would thouroughly recommend one.

I did the PD160 + cotton panel filter mod recently and I don't know if its psychological but I seem to be getting better mpg readout on my otherwise standard vRS ;)

Personally the PD160 and Green filter made absolutely no difference that I could notice however the Jabba RARB which I have fitted is probably one of the best modifications you can do and doesnt cost the earth  The difference is amazing and like Ken above I would highly recommend one:D

If you replace the stock filter every 10k rather than every 40k the car should run just fine, and the paper filter is a good fit. The 40k change interval IMHO is nuts and WAY too long, and it clogs up like hell + the car smokes like buggery.

The PD160 + green filter does help get rid of the feeling the car sufficates at higher revs, and appears to smooth the torque spike a little. That said, only with a remap will you benefit from the slightly easier supply of air.

The rear ARB is most definitely worth it if you want flatter cornering and just more enjoyable driving (less understeer). Don't drive like a total tool though as the lift-off oversteer is more pronounced and if you don't know how to handle that it will be rather 'interesting'.

If you drive it normally though, you'll find much more confident in the drive.

For the right price it is all worth doing :)

I'd go for FSDs once your dampers need replacing, with some Eibach springs, or coilovers if you prefer those, for the next step of your spending hehe - again it improves handling quite a lot and it is not too bad. You might get away with FSDs as a 'factory replacement' if you keep the springs the same. Not 100% sure though :)

The Jabba arb and PD160 are two of the most discussed things on here. A quick search will bring up tonnes of info for you.
