Back in for another tailgate respray...

Featured Replies

My 2001 Octy estate has returned to Loders Accident Repair center in Dorchester for them to have a second go at fixing the rust, and dealing with the white paint marks which appeared around the boot trim.

Initially they proved to be rather unhelpful, so I contacted Skoda Customer Services were less totally and utterly useless. I then returned to the Skoda dealer who raised the initial claim with Skoda. They viewed the car, and raised it with the bodyshop as the bodyshop would not deal directly with me.

The only downside to this, is that I was given a 2008 Fabia 1.2, 3 cylinder petrol "thing" to drive around till I get mine back. When I started it, the service thing flashed up on the dash, so I checked in reception - "oh don't worry about that". Lets hope the petrol thing does not mind racking up about 500 miles over the next week.

Suspension seems really soft at the front, and seat seemed to be very high, resulting in my ankles being quite bent - I noticed that on the last mk2 Fabia I drove.

If I had paid for the initial repsray and rust treatment I would have been really hacked off at the poor job they. When I first got the car back from the, the boot was mounted off-centre, the internal plastic boot trim broken, the rear washer jet pushed into the high level brake light. The tailgate still isn't mounted properly as the plastic trim in the boot is scuffed from everytime it is opened / closed, and the external trim is was stuck on off center (when compaired to the boot lock).

I did however get a new Octavia badge on the back, as the previous owner had debadged it.

Lets hope they do a better job this time, but other reports I have heard, indicate that maybe this wasn't a one off example of poor workmanship.

What warranty covers this? I have a 03 estate and its starting the rust in the usual place above the wiper.

7 year (iirc) anti-perferation warranty, covers you for rust as long as the paint surface was not damaged (ie. from a stome chip)

It looks like it is just coming away, from right under the glass. I might go to Skoda next week and enquire.

Arh, there was an issue with Skoda fitting the glass in the wrong place too. That is covered under the same warranty. Or it might have been the glass was a fraction too large, but either way I know people in the past have have this sorted under warranty.

Sorry to hear about the furby mate.

My 03 Vrs Estate is showing signs of rust (paintwork bubbling) on the tailgate on the rim/recess immediately below the rear window - no external impact. Is this covered by warranty and, if so, how can it be progressed when the original dealer is no longer an official Skoda franchise?

Just take it to any old Skoda Dealer, and then them to take the pictures and raise a warranty issue with Skoda UK. I have no idea which deal my car initially came from (well I guess I could check the log book and things), but I just took the car to my nearest Skoda Dealer (in Yeovil), when I was passing one day and got the ball rolling from there. My dealer had a bodyshop much closer than Yeovil so the work was done (badly) there.

Do a quick bit of research on here first, warranty is either 7 or 10 years (think the former), note the issues other ppl have had - the paint lifting off near the bottom of the glass on the estate is common, and then take it in. The y might try and fob you off, so just say that you know of other people who had the same issue who have had their car sorted under warranty. Guess it does not cost the dealer anything as they bill it back to Skoda at top dollar.....

Be interested to see how you get on this time round. Heard a couple of experiences like this on here and that has put me off getting mine sorted. I am going to leave mine until after the summer regardless.

Me too, as I am not sure I can handle driving a 1.2 fabia for too long
