Question for members with 1.8T Non VRS and Performance Exhaust

Featured Replies

My exhaust is beginning to go and when I replace it I'll be going with a performance exhaust. I've looked at Blueflame and Milltek but they both seem to have the oval exit from the VRS.

Does this mean I either need to source a VRS bumper or cut a hole in mine? If so which is easier/cheaper?

The other option is a custom exhaust. I remember seeing a lad on here who had a black elegance (with black alloys that had a green lip). He had a quadruple exit exhaust that ran under the bumper enabling him to keep the elegance rear. I can't find the link to his car now. Are these systems generally cost effective and performance effective?

Any suggestions or links would be appreciated and prices would assist. I'm looking to pay Milltek money and it'll be a full downpipe, cat and cat back.

Cheers.

When I was at Blueflame (some years back), I was asked what tail-pipe I wanted.

I told them what I required and they done it!

The system is (IMHO) cost effective and performance effective.

powerflow will make you one up as you require. You could maybe buy the cat from blueflame then get the system made by powerflow.

Cheers guys,

What sort of prices are we talking for that? Blueflame don't seem to have any prices published on their website which always worries me!

Blueflame will be the cheapest. I've got one- needed to go to Longlife though, and have a new rear hanger put on as it was quite wonky + their customer service sucks! Sounds good now it's bedded in.

If I had to buy another, I'd go Milltek next time.

Call them mate!

"Customer service sucks"

Yup, Blueflame TAKE NOTE.

Why

Because he does not have a Vrs and the Blueflame system comes out of an exit hole which his car does not have. If it had the exit hole then yes get the blueflame.

Sorry everyone it's going over my head again. I've been looking on the Powerflow website.

From what I can gather the options I have from front to back are:

Diameter of downpipe

The cpsi of the Cat itself

The diameter of the other pipes

The diameter of the silencer

I'm not going to be going garrett turbo for a good few years (if at all) but a slightly bigger turbo is not out of the question. I'll be looking for an exhaust that will contribute towards power of 250bhp (with the slightly bigger turbo) while being suitable for everyday use until I get that bigger turbo. So basically it doesn't have to handle ridiculous power.

What would you recommend I go for for the above specifications?

The tailpipe design I can just about handle!!

I don't have a vRS, I've got a Blueflame, I have not adjusted any bodywork.

Ahh ok so was your specifically for the 4x4 or did the Vrs one fit?

You probably already know if you have been on the powerflow website but i,ve got a cat back powerflow system and it cost just under £400.

Loads of tips to choose from and the chaps that fitted mine were really helpfull and they will make it as loud or quiet as you want. They also advised me on diameter of pipe i should have.

Even though its only cat back you could feel a performance increase.Lifetime guarantee for as long as you own the car.

Sorry i tried to upload picture of how it comes out from under bumper but i aint good with computers

Basically they start with a section of pipe, bend it, cut & shut to suit the car. You choose the tail pipe & cat you require, whey do the rest.

Nothing special with the vRS system, the 1.8T range is all the same apart from the 4x4, this one has a read axel (of sorts).

Excellent cheers guys.

Wayne can you get any pics up of yours?

I'm still considering what sort of look to go for if I dont go for a VRS rear bumper.

I will keep trying to upload the picture of mine. I might work out what i'm doing wrong eventually

If you click on my images it might give you a rough idea but sorry the pics aint the best :D

Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing

Stug,

I've seen your pics and it looks good. Out of interest is your elegance lowered at all in those pics. Where I often park at work the front end regularly bottoms out unless I'm extra cautious, and as I'm usually late I'm often not as cautious as I should be!! I'd worry putting the exhaust that much lower than the rear bumper. Mines lowered by about 35-40mm

I'm still trying to find the lad with the black octavia to steal his pics!!

Lol :D i have trouble with being less cautious than i ought to as well.

No not lowered, standard height but is on the list of things to do. But on the roads i have to use i think i might run into similar problems.

Hope all goes well

I think something similar on yours would be ok as i think other parts on mine would catch before the exhaust, when you get down and look at it it actually fits fairly close to the underside of the car.

If i come across the black Octavia i'll let you know.

Sorry Wayne,

I meant of the rear of the car so I can get ideas for my tailpipe design.

Cheers

I had both Blue flame & Miltek on my 4x4, both did custom tail pipes to save chewing up the bumper. I think quality wise the Miltek was better, I had a couple of return trips with the Blue flame, also the 100 cell cat failed, car ended up spitting flames so obviously the inside disapeared. In fairness the car was driven incredibly hard on track & Cannonball runs & was tweaked to 356 bhp

Does it matter, no one will see it! :banghead:

You need performance don't you, not "bling".

  • Author

I've always been about performance over bling BUT I've owned my sleeper for over 2 years now  . Now I want to make the outside reflect the inside a bit more. Hence 18s, WRC spoiler and bling bling tail pipes!!

I don't have any further plans though. Except maybe a full respray and lots and lots of decals  That's staying well and truly under my hat for now though!!! :D
