Newbie - few niggles, help please

Featured Replies

Evening all,

After discovering the Superb in the last couple of weeks and researching the car on this excellent forum I have taken the plunge and today collected my Black Superb Elegance (05) 2.5 V6 and boy am I pleased - especially at the price.

However (isn't there always one) I have a few niggles that I hope some of you can help me with :

1) On startup I am getting the 'Light Failure' message on the dash display As far as I can tell all the bulbs are working but the N/S xenon headlight (on dipped) doesn't seem to self level - any ideas ?

2) The remote central locking only unlocks the drivers door not all four, a second press does not unlock the rest. The interior door button does unlock the remaining doors and the lock button locks the car. Not sure what to do here.

3) Now it may be down to the cheap Chinese tyres on the car but riding over bumps (potholes) gives a bit of a shock through the shell (bit like scuttle shake on a convertible), or are some of the suspension underpinnings prone to wear (the car has 100K under its belt)

4) The interior door handles have the typical delamination of the coating, I have seen a few old threads about sourcing them on ebay and was curious if the Passat ones are a direct replacement.

5) I'm missing an ashtray from the rear between the front seats - any ideas on what the replacement cost is and where is the most cost effective place to source.

This may be the first of many posts so please be patient with me and I'm looking to be lurking around here for a while.

Oh by the way I'm in North Wales (Wrexham) and do any of you know of a localish specialist

..

Thanks dsab, but as I said I've tried the second press and that doesn't do the trick

Welcome

This is simply a software setting change (which can be done with either VCDS or from a dealer)

IIRC yes they are

3 - Is it shell or can you feel it through the pedals as well?

If so I've had this problem since I got the car Skoda wiped their hands of it and I'm stumped without spending heavy, I know all the things underneath are ok as it's been tested 3 times now for mot, I suspect this little list, broken shocker internally, engine or gearbox mounting, or one of the exhaust boxes has the baffles rattling around inside.

Because it feels like metal bouncing in a box as far as I can tell, only a certain type of bump does it and it's rarely a speed hump, almost like something is thrown up and lands slower than the rest of the car.

My 55 reg Superb had the problem with the "Lights Failure" message. Took it to 3 dealers before one found the problem. On mine it was the levellers. Sorted under warranty, so no idea on the cost..

Just thought I'd post an update on giving this Superb some much overdue TLC.

1) Popped into the dealers in Shrewsbury today (was there on business) and asked them to run a diagnostic on the headlights, technician cleared the fault, checked the sensors and did a test drive - all ok now  Though at £56 for this small piece of work warrants the 'stealer' name.

2) Had the tracking completed, four new Continentals fitted and the ride is much improved. If any of you are needing tyres in the North West I can't recommend Buckley tyres highly enough (I am in no way connected with them just a happy customer) for their level of service and speed. Plus they have a Hunter Road Force balancing machine which has balanced wheels on my wife's Touareg where other machines have failed.

3) Did the plenum clean at the weekend, thankfully all is OK in that dept, though the non VW Varta battery was a PITA to remove and put back in.

Thanks to those who replied.

Superbia,

Had the car serviced today and my 'weird steering feeling' is down to play in a couple of balljoints in the front susp, namely N/S track rod end and O/S front upper arm.

Apparently the O/S front upper requires removed of the entire leg and separating from the driveshaft. Not looking forward to that one
