Peugeot 307 problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Dad's 307 developed a fault on Saturday last with its BSI unit which meant that the car wouldn't start. Called the AA out and the guy did a temporary repair which got things going. I took the car in on Thursday and they had an electrician fit a relay to the car which bypassed the original place of the fault and meant that we could start it as normal (ie. by using the key) and it has almost been a case of so-far-so-good.

Now we have another problem which showed itself this afternoon. The warning light for the ECS (Emission Control System) is staying on and, in addition, the multifunction display says: "Antipolution Faulty" and the car is not always starting the first time.

The advice book says that if you get a fault with the ECS then contact Peugeot but my Dad, whose car it is, has a thing about using the dealer as they charge more for the job on the grounds that the customers pay their (Peugeot's) advertising bill".

This leaves questions as follows and I would be greatful for any answers on them. I will show the replies to my Dad who is not a member of this forum.

1. Is the "Antipollution Fault(y)" likely to go someway to explain why the car won't always start first time?

2. As I say, my Dad would prefer to use the local independant dealer on the grounds for it being cheaper. Can an independant do the job on the ECS Airpollution thingy or is this definately one for Peugeot?

3. Further to question 2, roughly how much might this job cost if it was taken to Peugeot?

Thanks.

Dave

You'll get a more informed answer from one of the Peugeot forums, worth registering with one of them to help you out.

Anti-pollution thing?

Sounds like a fancy word for Lamda sensor.

Whats a BSI unit?

*edit*

Found out

Peugeot and Citroen BSI (Body Control) units are very prone to failure. Symptoms include no indicators, ignitions lights on with no key, wildly incorrect cluster readings and complete non start.
