Time to order! Some thoughts, LUXON and more?

Featured Replies

Hi,

It looks like I on Monday will order mine.

After one Octavia RS I 2003 (105.000km) and one Octavia RS II 2006 (110.000km), I will now try the Superb. Have of course been very satisfied with the two RS.

There are some differences in included equipment in different countries, but here in Sweden there are pretty much as standard. Here follows my planned specification:

Superb 2010 Elegance

1,8TSI 160hp

Black magic

Manual gearbox

Emory leather/alcantara onyx

Sport chassi

18" wheels *see below

Park assist

Radio Bolero

Sound system

GSM II handsfree

MDI + USBcable

Webasto parking heater

230v socket (after-installed)

The items I am still thinking of, are:

18" wheels:

The 18" size is decided, but which ones?

LUXON looks very nice in broschure pics, but do anyone has "real" pics? I would really appreciate that!

LUNA is my next choice, it looks nice (maybe a little too "simple") what I have seen.

THEMISTO is my last choice, it seems ok though.

What do you think?

MDI:

Should now be an option from factory. If I have a USB-stick or an 2,5"ext.harddrive -does this work, and show also the ID3/nametags for the songs?

Webasto:

This item is my favourite one! Anyone has this? I thought of putting a more powerful battery in the car if possible(?). I believe it could be useful.

Antenna:

Has anyone found a more nice looking (and working) roof antenna on the aftermarket? The original one is awful. Maybe just cut a part of it off...? Note, I will not have the "GPS roof antenna".

GSM II:

Is the reception/quality of this handsfree system good enough? I don't like the adapter mounted, and think/hope that this is only Bluetooth.

So, if anyone has any comment -or maybe pics of especially the LUXON wheels on a car -it would be SUPERB! =)

Best regards,

Hasse, Sweden

Hi Hasse,

I'm afraid I don't have any real pictures of the Luxon alloys, but will see if I can find any.

On the MDI front, it does display all of the tag information, as long as you are not using ID3v2.4. For some reason, the v2.4 tags are not supported on either MDI, or the Bolero itself. Most software uses the v2.3 format, so this probably won't be a problem for you. If it is, then iTunes will convert the tags back to the earlier format, as will a lot of other software.

Several people have changed the aerial, so do a search on this forum, and you'll find what you need.

The GSMII kit does not come with a cradle, unless you specifically order one, so no worries there.

As for the Webasto, most of us here are based in the UK, so there's not much need for this. Having spent most of December in Fredros Gård, I completely understand why you would find it useful. Maybe, one of our members from colder climes can help out here.

Other than that, sounds like a great spec., and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Hasse : there`s only one MAJOR fault with that car that you are about to order :

MANUAL GEARBOX !!! No F****NG WAY..... :thumbdwn::thumbdwn::orb_blah_

Thanks Bagpuss!! Will write more later, but your answer was very helpful! =)

Thanks Skoda-Man. I have a budget, and the other equipment (i.e. emory upholstery) felt more important for me. I drive mostly "long-miles", and are used to manual. No problem for me.

Glad that you liked the other items! =)

Sport chassis(?), park-assistant and 18" wheels. Those would have been the ones that I would have left away from that list and DSG to replace them. But as said, different people like different things....congratulations anyway. You´ll get a great car. :D

If you are looking for a sporty configuration with a rather hard ride and you don't care about road noise I guess you have made the right configuration. I you are looking for a more comfortable car for the long trips you should reconsider the sport chassi and the 18".

Sport chassis is a must, I still think the car will be too high (and don't want to install extra lowering suspension). Park assist costs just a few Euros extra (since the sensors front/rear also is a must). 18" wheels is in my opinion needed on this big car, and I'm used to that. Total cost of these three items is under half of the DSG.

Exactly, it's nice that we like different things. :-) Thanks, yes I'm sure the car will be a nice one!

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I'm used to a sporty configuration. The Octavia II RS I have now has 18" wheels, and "extra lowered suspension" from the original RS. The road noise I hope will be not too much... I haven't driven the Superb II with sport chassi, but it cannot be that huge difference to the standard one(?). Thanks again for your comment!

Hi again Bagpuss, and thanks!

I understand about pictures of the Luxon, it's not easy to find... probably I will go for the Luna ones. They look "clean and solid" in a way.

Good information about the MDI, I thought it's a good idea to add it from start. Maybe it will come in use sometime.

The aerial, hopefully I will find one later on. I will read a little more about that, and the best thing must be to buy one and try if it is ok.

Sounds great about the GSMII, I really don't like that hanging thing and cables on the dashboard... also thought of the compability, but I understand it support at least most of the Nokia phones.

About the Webasto, lucky you that don't need it. ;-) Hopefully it will be something to use also in the summer, i really hate when the car is like a sauna... Ah, Fredros Gård looked very nice (after Googling). I will check that place up better!

Thanks again, I am pretty sure I will enjoy this car! =)

Best regards,

Hasse

I went for luna's a they looked easier to keep clean and they are a little different . They are certainly easy to clean but one of my first jobs was to remove all the wheels and polish and then wax them which helps no end

Thanks for your reply! Yes, they look nice in many ways. Aha, so you polished and waxed them... I didn't really understand if it helped? My english is not perfect. ;-)

yes helps a great deal , well worth doing

The road noise isn`t a problem in mid-europe, but in northern countries, like Finland and Sweden, the road surface is made from a rougher stuff, because we use winter tyres with studs. So for example almost every test drive that I`ve seen here complaits that the road noise is quite high. My car had 17" tyres when it came here but I demanded that they are replaced by 16" tyres and so it was....hope that swedish roads are at least a litttle bit smoother that ours....
