VAG Specialists in Sheffield?

Featured Replies

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

Anyone know of any VAG specialists in the Sheffield area that will be open today (Sunday 24th May?)

The local Skoda and VW garages are shut - expect everyone will be, but it's worth a try.

Ta.

You'll be lucky mate but...

Try Independent Cars at Ecclesfield, just off Nether Lane j35 M1

They are excellent with VAG cars from past experience

Maybe just the sales side open but worth a try.

I know there is another independent garage near Meadowhall, but can't recall the name.

I'm out and about driving now, so will keep an eye out for any open garages

Best of luck fella

Regards

Damian

Here's the story round this.

I work in Sheffield and live 73 miles south in Leicestershire. I noticed a problem (knocking noise from the front) 5 miles out of Sheffield on my way into work this morning.

That's a pain, but a bigger pain is the fact that I have tickets for Wembley tomorrow. I was going to take the Superb down to Wembley. :weeping: I don't think the Superb will be going anywhere at this rate.

I've got to get the car home, so if I can't get it sorted, I'll be taking it easy, and if need be, I'll have to call out the Breakdown peeps.

I suppose it keeps my mind off the match :D

Oh dear

fingers crossed for the car and the match

If it helps you could leave the car at my house (or at your workplace) and get the train home.

I could drop you at meadowhall station if you needed me to, its no problem

All the best mate

regards

Damian

Thanks for the offer

Looks like I'll be going to Wembley in the other half's Leon.

I think I'm going to try driving very gently home, and hopefully not trying out Auto Aid's services.

No worries

Take it steady

Is it related to engine speed?

Could be a worn drop link if its only related going over bumps, which should be fine to drive home on.

Not related to engine speeds. When it does it, there are 2 or 3 knocks per second. Does it if I'm in gear or out of gear. Tend to hear it if I'm not accelerating, though that may just be the 1.9 lump drowning it out. I've only noticed it when the wheels have been straight.

Seems to be coming from the front left - I've had the car jacked up, and there is no play in the wheel.

Noise is like one of my kids tapping on the dashboard (though it's coming from the front).

Not sure matey, the 2 or 3 knocks per second bit has thrown me.

Could be many of a thing, within the drive train.

I would have thought if it was a worn CV joint it would have done it whilst turning on lock. (heard joints cracking whilst cars have been reversing and turning at the same time)

I've no experience of worn wheel bearings, so cant point it at that either. But could possibly be that, it doesn't necesarily have to have play in it to be damaged/worn.

Dont know of many people that could help today, being a bank holiday and all.

I'll try to nurse it home and get it to the local VAG specialist on Tuesday.

Up The Clarets! (Sorry - that slipped out!)

Think I've sussed what it is.

There's a big plastic tray underneath that stops crap from getting into the engine bay. That's broken somehow, and some of it is flapping around. I presume once on the move, the wind is causing it to flap and bang underneath the car...

Glad you found out the cause, and it doesn't sound too expensive to rectify

All that remains to be said is "Come on you Blades!" :D

Cheers

Damian

Glad you found the cause mate, you can remove it by undoing the torx screws underneath.

You could run around without the tray, while you get a replacement.
