Stalling Renault

Featured Replies

My brother in law has an R reg Renault Megane which keeps dropping revs when he's stopped in traffic sometimes stalling if he's too slow to blip the throttle, anyone got any ideas what's causing this or how to fix it.It currently idles at about 500rpm which I thought a bit low. My suggestion to him that the problems the Renault badge on the front and the fix is to get a car with a Skoda arrow didn't go down well so anything that can help a Skoda driver sort his car out would be much apprieciated.

coils often break down on those models.........:(

check the distributer cap is clean/free from cracks.

if its something wrong with idling could be the idling sensor?

Other than saying "it's a Renault", I'd go with the usual suspects of throttle stop or idle control sensor as first thoughts.

Didn't someone on here have trouble with a Scenic of a similar age? I'm pretty sure it was the flywheel sensor, but I could be mistaken...

I remember the thread you're talking about and I'm fairly certain you're right too.

I'm pretty sure it was the flywheel sensor

Flywheel sensors are a known problem with these - certainly worth a better look into. My Megane, of similar age, was a heap of ****. Was relieved when I got rid of it!

LD: as an aside, if he needs a new set of brake drums pads for the rear send him my way - have some taking up space in the garage :D
