rear door 'buttons' pull straight out FAVORIT LXI E PLUS 1994 leaving doors unable to be opened from inside or out - please help!!

Pull straight out?

Arent they screwed onto the metal push rod thingy?

the whole button just pulls out now on one side (See attached). The other side more or less pulls all the way out but is prevented from doing so at the last point due to a white plastic piece on the end of it (this is missing from the other side).

Any help would be gratefully appreciated as I cannot at present open either rear door.

How about shifting this to the Favorit et al forum? Doug, bad news, but you'll have to take the door cards off to re-attach the hook on the bottom of the wire to the door lock mechanism.

Definatly you'll have to remove both door cards as KenONeil says.

But as the Favorit is basic anyway, taking the doorcards off is easy. Just don't lose any fiddly small screws/plastic trim

I've taken my front one off after the speaker wire came loose.

Door cards come off very easy on the Favorit. The only thing is you may need the round trim clips as they tend to snap when you take the door card off (you can try avoid this by sliding it forward once the screws and clips around the end are undone). The part you have pulls a bar that runs the length of the door.

Have you been heavy handed with them? If not is there any sign of scratches on the front end of the window or damage to the weather strip? A thief using a coat hanger would have no luck on the front doors as there is a guard there, so may have gone on to the rears to try their luck.

I can't remember exactly how the bottom bit connects so not sure what could be broken. If you can't fix it as a temporary measure you could leave it permanently unlocked (by pulling the bar with the door card removed) and disconnect the exterior door handle pushrod. The door will then open with the handle on the inside only. This would be MOT passable but would probably get an advisory notice.

Many thanks for the replies, i'll get cracking at the weekend! Only bought the car last week, £135 + £68 for new baffle box, then it sailed through it's mot, 6 months tax, very happy motoring for under £300, a fantastic car, really happy to join the skoda ranks!

I'm not sure exactly how, but as I said earlier (ok in more detail now), I'd expect that hook on the end of the button to connect to a lever that activates the lock.

Here's a diagram from the vagcat website. Number 17 is a caged nut and it looks like it's for the pivot on part 14 which translates motion to the horizontal bar. If that is intact I suspect you simply need to get the bar that came out back in and possibly bend it slightly with pliers to prevent it coming out again.

I'd agree; the "knob rods", parts 16 on the diagram, are detached from the bell cranks, part 14.
