Soggy Suspension

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have just bought a ahigh mileage MK1 octavia 1.9TD Ambiente, it has covered 220000 miles, and as my other half stated, it handles like a hippo on a lilo....

My question is, is there an after market suspension kit that would firm up the ride/handling, and also which VW/Skoda alloys will fit the car as it has steelies on it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best to talk to a Site Sponsor about sourcing a suspension kit for an Ambiente.

As for alloys, pretty much anything from the VAG catalogue with a 5 bolt hub, up to 17" diameter and 6.5 or 7" width should bolt on (subject to correct size tyres). Your local dealer may have a catalogue showing the various dealer fit alloys.

Given the high mileage, you ought to consider having the suspension bushes replaced on the front control arms (wishbones) and anti roll bar. Maybe worth looking at the rear swing arm bushes too. You'll probably find a big improvement in just doing this alone.

Other than the ARB bushes, changing bushes will do nothing for roll or under-damping. Mart, what was your previous car so we can make a comparison?
