Hi

I currently own a vRS 2004 Fabia, and I recently took it for an MOT and was told it was ticking over too fast its approx 900 rpm warm or cold it also makes a really high pitched whirring noise on acceleration, 3 mechanic have looked at it one told me fan belt pulley and not to worry about it, the other 2 have said its incorrectly fitted timing belt ( timing belt has been on since october 2007 and the car has done 16K ) both of these mechanics have said they are not 100% and they want it in to dismantle it at around £50 ph and then 100% diagnose it, I have also now discovered its leaking oil from its EGR Valve!! I know it needs attention but I think I am not being told everything as I am a girl in a boy car does anyone have any ideas how I could self fix it ( or my other half can self fix ) or a really honest reasonable garage in the leeds/wakey area

thank you

900 RPM tickover is only slightly high as it's meant to be 850 RPM. Oil leaking from EGR valve suggest there is a blown gasket in the intake between EGR and Boost hoses, or EGR and inlet manifold. EGR valve could probably do with a good clean if car hasn't had the PCV elephant hose modification done.

Both jobs easily done DIY, but only if you know your way around the Fabia engine bay

PS The slightly high idle speed is probably linked to the EGR leak.

Thanks Moggy I will tell him in doors when I get home (luckily we bought a Haynes Manual) just need to sort its high pitche whine out now lol

thanks again :-)

If you accelerate from about1_200rpm, does the whine start at about 1_500?

Hi Ken

no its constant whenever have my foot on accelerator louder at slower speeds although engine noise does not change what i reminds me of is one of those cars you have as a child that you drag backwards and then let go it that makes sense??

thanks

It sounds like you may have a leaky vacuum hose perhaps.

Yeah; I was thinking it's either normal turbo noise, or a leaky hose or hose joint somewhere.

Hi everyone

I did think noisey turbo as I had HDI before so did not know, but the people who have looked at it say its timing belt or fan belt pulley i am going to have to swallow my pride and pay the £50 quid ph lol thanks everyone

Hi

Oil from the egr? Are you sure the breather isnt just blowing oil through your inlet system?

My Octavia PD13 and my brothers Furby vRS both suffer from this - need an oil catch tank and this sorts the problem.

Wirring noise? - where abouts are you? happy to look for less than £50 an hou

r
