Any Excel experts?

Featured Replies

Is it at all possible to find out who has previously saved a spreadsheet? We have one that seems to have been changed and we don't know who by! Has to be one of our team as no one else can get in the support folder, so it's a bit weird really........

It's not shared so I can't track changes, but is there any clever way to find out just on a normal sheet?

cheers

I dont think so, that sort of info is not stored as far as i am aware.

If you go to File > Properties and click on the Statistics tab it will show you who last saved it, but I think that depends on the info entered when office was set up and in some corporate environments all the computers will have the same information, so that may not be much help. Worth a try though.

You can use the last saved by in the properties, but if several people are editing it, then it could have happened some saves ago.

You can turn on change tracking from now, but unless it was on already, then it wont reveal past changes UNLESS you're running Excel 2007.

Yes it's 2007, but track changes only works on shared spreadsheets :(

You'll just have to line up the suspects and threaten them then.

It was you and you know it, just hold your hands up Loz :)

When was the last backup of the file? Could you not go back to a previous revision?

Probably, I just wanted to find out who it was that's all. we can put it back how it was, it's just really odd....

Oky doke. Also depends on the server's OS, if it was on a server of course! Novell Netware was much better at file tracking and ownership than any Windows Server version has been, IMO.
