should we demand complete coil replacement?

Featured Replies

the situation as i see it ( please correct if im wrong ):

the coilpacks on the 1.8T engine are a problem worldwide. they are dropping like flies all over the place in audis, skodas, seats, vw's and it is a recognised problem.

from what i was told at the dealer when my coilpack went , there is now an updated coil that has been introduced to rectify the problem. so, currently my car has one good coil and 3 potentially duff ones.

i'm not up on the legalese of this sort of thing, but surely if it is such a huge problem ( which it is ) and they have introduced new coils to rectify the recurrence of the problem, then we would have a good case for asking for all the coils to be upgraded under warranty surely??

frankly, i think the situation is pretty crap. a good friend with a tt has had 2 go in the space of 2 weeks. the problem is so bad that audi ( ? just his garage) now has a mobile mechanic that comes to customers, and is replacing 4 -5 a day!! what a joke. he currently is in 'negotiations' with the garage to get the remaining 2 replaced pre-emptively.

i think i'll get on the phone to horner's, possibly also skoda uk and see what the situation is.

opinions please.

it's a fair point, but if we do this as a group we will kill the supply of coils even longer, even tho (for now) we have "working" coils.

My car is at Horners today, I may have a word with them about it, see if (once stock levels rise) they are willing to do something about it.

(The mechanic gave me a lift into the centre in my car, he said "Oh yeah I remember this one, last time I drove it I got back to the garage and said "have you guys driven that estate??!!" I think he likes it :D)

good point about stock levels ian. just so damn silly and infuriating. you would have thought that at the very least, they would have sorted out there supply problems.

he obviously likes your funky child seats.

Which ones, the two in the back or the drivers seat? ;)

Even if Skoda agreed to this - and they would probably argue that the warranty doesn't extend to replacing parts that are serviceable - owners would presumably need to know if they had H coil packs fitted (ie 06B 905 115H) before asking for them to be replaced by the later J version. But do we know if the J version is failing as well?

I tried to check my coil packs just now. There is no sign of a part number without removing the coil packs, and I couldn't see any obvious way of removing them either. How about instructions on this site on how to remove/replace coil packs, preferably with pretty pictures. (BTW - coil packs or coilpacks?).

I also phoned my local dealer - WJH Motors - to see if they had any in stock. They had 2 last Wednesday - none today - and aren't expecting any until the second week in December. Price for the 06B 905 115J is

certainly my emergency garage tried to be as helpful as possible by replacing 3 out of 4 of these varmints , which was all they had in stock at the time .
