Running AVG 8.5? Tip:

Featured Replies

If you share my irritation over the pointless notification box at the bottom of the User Interface you can close it permanently.

Find the AVG program files folder (mine is C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\ )

Rename three files:

avgfree_us.mht > avgfree_us.mht.bak

avgmwdef_us.mht > avgmwdef_us.mht.bak

avgresf.dll > avgresf.dll.bak

If the notification box reappears after a program update in the future, repeat.

Cheers for that!

Just done it and it works!

Has always annoyed me that little box!

got a list of the AVG files , but can't find those files

Are you runnning an older version? The notification box was an "invention" in AVG8.

right i have a file name of "avgfree_us" without the ".mht" but if i click on this it brings up the orange screen with download AVG internet security , with this C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgfree_us.mht

i assume this is the thing i need to change ?

well i seem to have got it to work , there are too many "mht" but if the that warning box doesn't ope , who cares

Yes hopefully you haven't killed anything important, but then AVG would probably issue a warning.

Guess that you haven't enabled the "show file end" option in your file manager and that's why you didn't find the .mht, .dll, and so on

no idea where to find the "file manager" just did a search for the files , then renamed them ,

just had a look again and the extra "mht" seem to have gone

just done my AAO too
