Amplifier - wear in?

Featured Replies

I'm getting a new amp as my last one blew.

I know if you get new speakers, you shouldn't put them on full blast for a while - you must wear them in first before gradually cranking up the decibles.

Is this true with the amplifiers themselves? Do you have to 'wear them in'? Or if you attach already worn-in speakers can you turn them up high from the getgo?

Amplifers work better when they are 'warmed' up.

Amplifiers, and all other Electronic equipment is made to work 100% when taken from the box. I think the only equipment 'Aged' before use is Military ,or Hospital where the consequences may be life threatening. Transistors ,or Integrated Circuits work 100% of the time ,or not at all. They blow or go faulty quicker than a fuse !.

Thanks AndyPandy, I assumed that would be the case I just wanted to make sure - really don't want to blow another amp!

And cheers dragonfly that's good to know.

Speakers have mechanical moving parts, so benefit from a bit of running in. The only moving part in an amp is the electrons, :)so you'll be fine.

Phil

you dont want the amp too warm tho lol

As for running in speakers. Its VERY debateable.

I had a JBL GT4 12" sub and from day one i gave it 800wrms and played it loud and never had a problem. Same goes for my current sub ( atomic APXX12 ) and all subs i've owned
