Hey guys as you are probably aware I'm brand new here.

Had a 406 but it was costing too much to fuel and insure for an 18 year old over £1700! in fact. So I agreed with my father to get me something a little less expensive to run.

So I thought a Skoda Octavia.

I like my cars first off and I did have my heart set on a Mondeo Ghia X but then I thought hmm this is essentially a VW Golf, the engines are always raved about and I've been in taxis with almost 500,000miles on that still seem damn good, so I took the pludge and bought a 1.9TDi GLX Octavia I (1999 MY) not a bad spec either even has parking sensors :confused:

Take a look at the link and see if I've made a good decision or bought a corker, I spoke to the owner and it's had the cambelt at 120,000 miles, had it's oil changed regularly but it will have a service when I pick it up by my good self etc etc. So I thought for £950 what the hell get it!

Anything I need to watch out for guys? MAF Sensors? Boost Pipes? Oil Leaks, Water Leaks? Anything?

I know those alloys aren't genuine but I'll probably stick so Skoda centercaps on and no one will ever know or replace them with VRS ones in the future.

Also I'm into my music and I already have a Pioneer DEH-5000 out of my 406 to go into the Octavia, what sizes are the speakers and what brand and model do you recommend replacing the stocks with? Also is it a component system in the octavias I wasn't really paying attention in the taxis i've been in.

Any help will be most certainly appriciated and I hope my ownership and driving of this Octavia is pleasurable!

Oh a little point to mention I'm 6ft 8 will I fit in? I can fit in the 406 I have ok, In the Primera P12 I had and in a Focus in relative comfort, the seating, headroom/legroom situation would be good if any taller member could comment it would be appriciated.

Quick point the owner said it has no remote central locking???? What gives???

Been used for towing so get the rear suspension checked out.

Looks ok for the age apart from the obvious scuffs and scrapes. Like you said used a lot as taxi's so must be good.

Size wize, about the same as a focus if not bigger

I'm 6ft 2 and I always have the seat as far back as it will go, and at the lowest height setting

(Dont think there is a car I've ever driven where I haven't put the seat right back....)

6ft 8? Hmmm, might be a bit tight I reckon
