Coolant

The cooling system is filled at the works with coolant (purple in colour), which

complies with the specification TL-VW774 F.

We recommend that you use the antifreeze agent - G12 PLUS (purple in colour).

We recommend that you contact your Škoda Service Partner if you have any questions

regarding the coolant or if you wish to fill up with a different coolant.

Your Škoda Service Partner can also supply you with the correct coolant additives

You must therefore not reduce the concentration of antifreeze agent in the coolant

by adding water, also not during the summer months or in countries with a warm

climate. The concentration of coolant additive in the coolant must be at least

40%.

Cooling system of the vehicle, 6.8l

You've got the right stuff, you don't mix it though as it as a coolant fluid, you fill the system with, any water or other things that might be added to it are really considered to be contaminents and could compromise it's capacity to stay liquid down to minus whatever temperature. You will need enough to fill the system if you plan to drain it, it should tell you in your user manual what the coolant capacity is or probably someone will come on here after me (oops, someone hs quicker typing fingers than me and beat me to it) and will know the information. I would be an idea to see if anyone has written a procedure for doing it ( I am sure it will be basically the same for say a Golf or an Ibiza etc) because I know when I released the drain tap at the bottom of my radiator (Mk4 Golf TDI), I know I didn't get as much fluid out of the system as I had hoped and still ended up spilling more than I hoped on the garage floor and that all had to be replaced and it ain't cheap.

Hope it all goes OK,

Cheers,

Faskoda.

Too slow at typing, sorry!

Are you sure that the G12 or G12+ or G12++ is really premixed to be 60/40 ? I don't think so, but I've forgotten what is written on the containers. One thing though, this stuff is for life - or at least until the cambelt/chain and/or waterpump needs changing.

I drained my system as I found the leak and I bought one 1.5l bottle from SEAT and added andther 1.5l of water to it and topped it up a bit to just below the max line on the expansion tank.

Don't know where someone got 6.8litres from??

I totally agree with your 50/50 or 1 to 1 mix - spot on that man!

To Faskoda, I've now had a look at the container of G12 PLUS that I have in the garage and it lists 50/50 for down to -24C - or some temperature like that. The thing is, you really need to peel open the "instructions" to find this out, so if you are a novice at this sort of car stuff, I'd advise that you read the instructions first.

Yeah I should have said to you about the peeling the label

I was thinking G12 when this thread started, this is what I have used in my MK4 Golf, didn't know there was G12 plus and plus plus, not that advanced yet, sorry if I confused things.

Faskoda, G12+ and if it exixts G12++ are the "same as" in function/use/application as the older G12 so any comments about G12 are also true (as far as we're concerned) when applied to G12+ or G12++ - but I'm sure someone will be able to point out the improvements that were made to uprate these products.
