Old skool laugh

Found this while clearing out some old zip archives, made me laugh again.

Alex reckons I'm a little sad, because now one only needs to write:

irb> 500.times{ p "I will not throw paper airplanes in class"}

Which wouldn't work as well humor wise, but a much nicer read generally no?

29143.attach

Very good Colin!

:coder:

:rofl:

There's no line throw on the printf statement!

10 PRINT "I will not throw paper planes in class";

20 GOTO 10

10 PRINT "I will not throw paper planes in class";

20 GOTO 10

Reminds me of my old commodore 64. :D

10 PRINT "I will not throw paper planes in class";

20 GOTO 10

Spectrum?

Of course, in BASIC you'd actually need:-

10 Index = 1

20 Print "I ..class."

30 Exit if Index > 500

40 Index = Index + 1

50 GOTO 20

Spectrum?

Yarr! We used to love attending WH Smith of a Saturday morning and fiddling with the display Speccy:

10 PRINT "ANDREW SHEPHERD IS A ****"

20 GOTO 10

Oh how we laughed.

Ken... this is life or death serious programming we're talking here...

10 FOR x = 1 TO 500

20 PRINT "blah"

30 NEXT x

..the nuclear missile would've launched by line 40 in yours & we'd all be dead! :P

Look, the time I used BASIC previous to this was a quick hack in 1996, to drive a serial port so I could capture some test data for a Pascal program.

That's a good hack :)

I'm quite chuffed this thread is still going, proof for Alex I am not alone.

Also looking at these alternatives makes me more happy for the magic of Ruby one liners :)

I've got an old assembler book somewhere, like Ken, I have not used it in over 12 years and then it was to turn a led on and off or something trivial to satisfy a tutor.

for($i=0;$i<500;$i++) {
    echo "I will not throw paper airplanes in class\n";
}

Am I wrong for doing this?

PROCEDURE DIVISION.
Begin.
   PERFORM 500 TIMES
      DISPLAY "I will not throw paper airplanes in class"
   END-PERFORM
   STOP RUN.

Brings back memories...

Anyone remember using CESIL to write similar programs?
