Starting problem

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Recently got my 1.9tdi serviced and when it came back there was a starting problem, which we have never had before in the 3 years we have the car.

It starts no problem when cold. However, after a long journey, if I take a break and try to start the car again (within about 10-20mins) it often simply turns over for about 5/6 seconds before finally catching.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Brik

Did they replace / drain the fuel filter as part of this service?

When it finally catches, does it run smoothly or does it sound like it's not running on all cylinders for a few seconds?

If the answer is no to both of the above then it sounds like you have a fairly common 1.9 PD105 problem. I believe it would be useful to get the speed of your starter motor checked. There are several threads about it...

No! The other thread was a different problem and was actually the battery so simple to solve.

This is different as it is only when the car has been running for a while. When it eventually does catch, it runs smoothly.

I got a friend to do the diagnostic stuff with his laptop but nothing came back out of the ordinary. But he suggested it may be something to do with the lambda sensor (but I haven't a clue).

Thanks for the links above to other threads, I will have a look through them now

did you ever get to the route of this problem as my Oct.2 is doing the same thing?
