Van Aken Smartbox

Featured Replies

I found a Van Aken Smartbox on my 1.9TDi 90PS Octavia.

Was wondering why it was bloody quick for a 90! Well I guess a 110 now  :thumbup:

Any idea how much those would of cost new, are they any good, harm to the engine and if anyone has the manual to tweak them etc.

One thing which is amazing no matter how much I boot the car, no black smoke  amazing really

And the rest; the Smartbox usually offers 25 to 30 brake. And so it should; they want something like £400 to 500 the last time I looked, which is heading into custom map with roller time money, not generic maps.

Decent then Huh?

I Scanned my car with Vagcom and I'm getting this code:

17970 - Quantity Adjuster (N146): Upper Limit Reached

P1562 - 35-00 - -

It only seems to appear when I leave the ignition on without starting the car then the glowplugs flash, Assuming it's nothing to worry about could it just be the box kicking in and I'm told they wait a few minutes after ignition to prevent the diagnostics throwing a wobbly.

Or do I have to start worrying?

Can I alter the tuning box in anyway or is it Smart for a reason?

I'd like to get it on a rolling road, any more rolling road days coming up guys?

I'm from the North East, I know I was reading about that but assuming I'm thinking of the same place the south coast is some 5+ hours from me :( I'd love to come down though, but you know I've gotta get my car fixed up yet xD
