Interesting new squeak

Featured Replies

Yesterday my PD140 DSG Hatch developed a new squeak, generally happens when going over bumps in the road and is either a single squeak or a double squeak-squeak.

Difficult to tell if its in the dash or from the front suspension / under bonnet but as the warantee runs out on the 30th am keen to know what it is and get it fixed.

Car is going in for 3 year service tommorrow and they have said they will investigate.

Has anyone any experience of this or ideas I can pass on? - car has only done 12k miles and has been trouble free to date. As far as know there are no mice trapped in the car but thats what the squeak sounds like.

I bet your ARBs need some grease and voilà...

Yup, most likely ARB grease. Key is to get the fault reported, logged and investigated now in warranty. That way, even if they don't resolve it in the warranty period, you can still go back and insist they do it.

It is clearly a leprechaun issue again ;)

Thanks for the info guys - cars in now so fingers crossed

My vRS did this from time to time, I mentioned it at the last service and they greased the ARBs and it stopped it. Was particularly noisy over speed bumps, where it would squeak as it compressed the suspension, and then 'unsqeuak' as it rebounded. I was woried about the dampers or springs but grease on the ARBs did the job.

You're welcome :), hope grease will solve everything!

Sorry chaps but what are the ARBs. I'm having this squeak now as well (47KM). Only noticed it now as the weather has been dry for last few days.

Also its dissapointing OP didn't reply with solution!

I'm presumming the greasing solved the problem?

anti roll bars

Finally found it on the web ARB = Anti-Roll Bar.

I am squeak free but just out of interested where do you put the grease on the ARBs?

James.

Hi James,

where the ARB is held by bushings (hope my English will support me...)

Well, my problem with squeak which appeared to come from the front right corner of the car turned out to be a problem of the rear RHS folding seat not been put back into its place properly. When transporting an extention ladder I lowered the split seats however I musn't have pushed the seat back fully and this was causing the squeak. Funny while sitting in the drivers seat I honsetly thought the noise was from the front RHS of the car but when out with mechanic I was sitting in the passengers seat and I could hear the noise coming from the rear.

Anyhow aren't car complex :-/

Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks,

octojoe.

yes.. back seat not locked properly.. I've had it.. my girlfriend was driving and she said it's something from front side of the car.. but I was quite sure it was something from inside.. tried many things and then I've found left back seat is not properly locked.. so simple..
