Possible Clutch Problem

Featured Replies

A couple of weeks ago when we had bad floods and traffic backed up for miles in every direction I was stuck in traffic for a couple hours inching along and ended up with a bit of a burning smell and smoke from the engine bay. I pulled over and let it cool and then crept home.

I've barely done any miles since but when I have driven it the engine temperature does rise to about half way on the gauge but I'm not noticing any slippage. The car is going in for it's service next week and I'm getting him to investigate but thought I'd ask here for any opinions.

I've got a few miles short of 110k on the clock. Is it the cliutch that's gone? Is it expensive to replace?

I think you might just have a rag or a bag stuck on the exhaust somewhere, and this is where the smell is coming from, generally a clutch will smell like something bordering on a bad fart, eggy, if it's a rubberised smell it could be a Tesco carrier bag melted on.
