Pulling to Left After Service!

Featured Replies

Fabia VRS had full main dealer service end of April, (Carrs Skoda Bridgwater) included new set of Goodyear F1 tyres and brake fluid change. Old front tyres were scrubbed so also had wheel alignment. Car now seems to pull to left and also slight vibration through steering particularly at 70 - 80. Appreciate advice before I go back to dealer please. I will update you on their response.

My wife (a good driver:)) normally uses the car and she assures me she has not kerbed it or hit any big pot holes

Balancing and Tracking perhaps?

these cars always pull to the left.

its just one of those things.

vibrations could be caused by unbalanced wheels as stated above.

i bet the garage changed the tyres front to rear or something like that during the service. This is common.

Sometimes unidirectional tyres tend to drift to one side or another. I have found in the past that simply changing the wheel locations round sorts it out. They have probably done it in reverse ie caused the drift by changing the wheel locations.

If the wheels were fine before the service there should be no reason that the balance or tracking has suddenly gone awol.

Ask them if thats what they did ?

Hi KTP

you say these cars always pull to the left, well mine does not, and I'll bet most others

don't either, if they do there is a problem, could be a easy as low tyre pressure or a sticking piston causing the pad to bind

The OP says he has had a complete new set of unidirectional tyres and a wheel alignment.

I agree with RADIOTWO and KTP, they don't ALWAYS pull to the left, but a lot of them do. It is a well-known phenomenon.

Tyre choice seems quite important. On Bridgestones and Continentals my car drives pretty much 100% straight ahead. On Falkens it pulls a little and it pulls noticeably with Goodyear Eagle F1's.

The best I have found are Michelin Primacy HP in both 16" and 17" sizes.

The other thing to be aware of is that the alignment service supplied by VAG dealers only adjusts the car to "Within Manufacturers Tolerances" which means it can still be a little way out and still be regarded as passable. It could also be that adjusting the car 100% to exactly specification makes the cars pull to the left and they need to be adjusted "within tolerance" to stop them pulling like that.

I would certainly take the car back if you're unhappy with it, and don't be fobbed off "They all do that" because they don't. Yours didn't either, before.

I would go back to the dealer, tell them it didn't pull before and would they mind having another go.

mine does and there is nothing at all wrong with the car, tyres and brakes are fine, tracking's spot on but if i let go of the wheel it'll take me off to the left. its always done that

i'm sure if you drive on the wrong side of the road it drives straight tho :)
