The gearbox in my vrs went pop at a track day yesterday. I'm not to sure what to do as yet! Its the standard 5 speed.

Do I?

Get the current box fixed?

Get a reconditioned one?

Upgrade?

If I were to upgrade what box would fit straight on?

Seat cupra? 6 Speed box with lower ratio?

Audi tt 225. Was there a front wheel drive version?

5 speed golf gti box? Lower ratio I think but maybe to weak!

i guess it was probably the diff that let go!!!

if doing lots of track days you must uprate the diff or this will happen:thumbup:

if you have a modded car then go for 6 speed petrol

Your right it could be the diff!! I'm not sure yet as it only happened yesterday. Would I get a limited diff for under a grand?

6 speed is stronger but will cost nearly as much as a diff into a 5 speed seeing as you'll need to change the selectors, clutch pipe, starter motor, clutch, flywheel, drive shafts and basically anything else that touches the box as its all different.

jabba don't make their own, its a penguin diff and there's virtually nothing in it. go with the best price

brother has just bought a penguin off of Gary(oilburningnut) and its very good, amazing traction with it.

Good bet the diff crown wheel has come off the carrier, as it's riveted on.

Yes there's a kit of proper high tensile steel nuts and bolts. Too late if it's already gone bang though.

The box and diff are in the gutter!

Can't afford to upgrade right now.

Is the 02j box in a mark 4 gti the very same?

i believe so but could well be wrong, happened many times before.

Managed to get a box out of another vrs with 34k miles on it. €450. I'm in Ireland!
