Highbeam turns/stays on Felicia

Featured Replies

Hello. I live in Norway and have a '97 Felicia LXi Estate with highbeam problems.

It started when I discovered it was impossible to dip the beam when I was signalling to the left; as soon as I turned the signal lights of, the beam would dip.

a few days later the highbeam would go on by it self randomly unless I engaged the parking lights; these function normally.

Nowdays I have to run with the stalk in highbeam position when driving (in Norway automatic driving lights are used, lowbeam is switched on as soon as the engine start). If i pull the stalk towards me (to the normal lowbeam position) highbeam turns on and of randomly (mostly on).

When automatic driving lights are engaged, highbeam is normally not possible to turn on except for flashing.

The switch is changed with used one from a breakers and the fusebox LOOKS dry and ok.

I believe the voltage regulator is ok; when I measured voltage at idle it was 14V.

Any comments welcome!

thanks, movikong

I've now checked the earth to body connections near the damper tower/struts in the engine bay. They were and are ok.

any other ideas? cheers /movikong

Probaly the stalk itself as Philje had this or a similar problem with Nelly the Felly

Thank you for your reply.

I have already changed the stalk once (called it a switch in the first post); when I first got the car high beam wouldn't work at all. It worked ok for a while after I replaced the stalk with one from a breakers.

Looks like I've got to change the stalk again. Anyone know any good online places where I can get a new one?

thanks, movikong

I had exactly the same problem with mine yes! Changed the stalk and the problem was fixed.

Although I did take the old one apart and fixed it by cleaning the contacts and mechanism but then I lost one of the springs and that's why I had to change it.

Ok, thank you both for your information.

I will try to change the stalk and see what happens.

cheers, movikong

When I read your OP, my immediate reaction was that the problem was in the main/dip/flash/indicator stalk/switch unit.

Looks like 'Bram Stalker' stalked me; it was the stalk. The problem is now fixed. Thanks to you the fault did not drain the blood from my veins.

Thank you again for your useful contribution.

cheers, movikong.

No problem. Glad you got it fixed.

I just remembered how annoying it was indicating to come off at an exit and blinding everyone in front of me!
