Car replacement time - Bluetooth question

Featured Replies

:thumbdwn:I am due to swap my car in the next 8 weeks - and need to order by Tuesday lunchtime to miss the next quater of prices (suspect they will increase)

I am torn between the following vehicles - has to be Auto

in order of cost - cheapest first

Volvo V50 R-Design SE

Nice car, but worried about the size and dont really want to go down the bigger V70 route. Interesting the gearbox is a version of the DSG. Oh and the closet dealers 45 minutes away.

I love the look of the car, and its MPG should be pretty good

Skoda Octavia Elegance - £500 more

The same car as i currently have and will be able to add all the things I would now like on mine. Bluetooth, Maxi-dot MFSW, MDI and Light Assist

Skoda Octavia VRs - £1500 more then V50

Will be able to get the 170bhp version, so will be quicker :D

Still have to add lots of extras to get it up to a standard I wish, which are roughly the same as the Elegance, addition of Parking Sensors and Light/Rain sensor

I love the LED lights, its a shame it doesn't also come with Xenons like the A4

Nissan Quashqai - £1500 more then V50

The car has everything in it, Bluetooth, Sat Nav, Reverse Camera (no sensors:thumbdwn: )

Its got the Glass Roof (as standard), leather, xenons

So its got all the kit which I like, but the thing that bothers me is the Diesel 2.0 does

A great driving position and really practical for Family, Dogs and trips

0-60 in 12 secs..... and when you compare that to the VRs - well hmmm

So really, the pretty good V50 (be it small) is £1,500 cheaper then the VRs/Nissan

Due to the lack of Brochures for the VRs and the fact the website car builder does not have things like Leather and Sat Nav as available options I am unsure.

Has anyone got the Bluetooth system (without Columbus Nav)

Does it show the name/number in the Maxidot?

Can I dial from the phonebook using Maxidot?

Does it work with an iPhone 3g?

Is the ride in the VRs as firm as that of the Elegance with Sports Suspension?

Swimbo moans that the current car with Sports Suspension is uncomfortable to drive long distances?

I have seen that the Cardiff Dealer has a few VRs Manual in so may go later for a drive

Well, im biased ray so would go with the vrs :) I did look at the volvos when I bought mine but they were just too small, sort of focus sized in the estate.

leather seats used to be around £1800 dealer option as they swapped out your seats. Personally I wouldnt upgrade my seats unless it was free as I find the leather/cloth/alcantara really cumfy. Sat nav around the 1400 ish mark but didnt you fit your own mfd2? could you fit this in the new one if you still have the old radio? (i did with mine)

Yup, works really well
Does it show the name/number in the Maxidot?
yes
Can I dial from the phonebook using Maxidot?
yes but its rather labourious traying to navigate through your phone book. If you get the dsg with MFSW then you should get voice dialling i think
Does it work with an iPhone 3g?
dont know

I had sports suspension on my L&K and found it great in the corners but the car was very crashy on the bumps. Ive found the VRS is loads better and handles the bumps a lot better whilst still remaining stiff int he corners, dont know why this is though. my missus never mentions the bumps in this one, she just doesnt like the sports seat bolsters

The V50 shares its platform and other major bits with the Focus, so in terms of interior space its going to be pretty much the same. You can only get the in built factory bluetooth on the Vrs DSG and not the manual for some STUPID reason.

I was in a similar situation a couple of months back as my PD Vrs is due to be replaced in September, I went for the Mazda 6 2.2D Sport estate as it came fully loaded. The main thing putting me off another Vrs was the bluetooth not being available with the manual box. I am not old enough to warrant an auto yet ;-)

If it has to be an auto then I would go for the Vrs without a doubt, although you wont sit in a comfier car than the Volvo !!!

have just come back from the Cardiff dealer to be told they are not allowed to order new VRs at the moment.... the car shown on the order screen is also the same price as the non-facelift (as per brochure)

so i have walked away frustrated..... hopefully he will come back to me tomorrow with some more positive news

Not allowed to order one. Did they say why?

I ordered one last week and I'm just waiting for confirmation as I asked the dealer to double check the Bluetooth & manual gearbox situation.

No... not really

Even showed me the ordering system that shows the same retail price that of the 'non-facelift' VRs

Going to ring another dealer and Skoda UK

The sales person didn't believe they had been built yet.... until I showed him the Hortons Thread photos
