diesel filter

Featured Replies

dudes how easy is it to fit a diesel filter do you just pull out the clip and push the filter in ive got a 56 plate superb elegance and what about the air filter do you have to undo the 4 clip and pull it of or do you have to remove anything else thanks

Is it a 1.9 tdi?

If so you pull the clip and remove both in and out hoses (crimps iirc) slacken the filter holder and pull it out, remove the plastic collar and refit to the new filter (very important) drop the filter into the holder and put the hoses back on tighten up, pour fresh derv into the new filter, refit the clip and start her up, hth.

Fuel filter:

Replace the blue and black "O" rings on the plastic Tee in the correct order. These are supplied with a new filter. Avoid Chinese filters (often now supplied by VAG), Mann & Hummel or Bosch are the best.

It's better to prime the system using a vac pump after a filter change - apply vac to the filter outlet port until bubble-free fuel emerges. Observe the most scupulous cleanliness at the filter outlet at all times.

This filter fitment has to be one of the most stupid designs ever - 12 point driver required to loosen the clamp bolt and no access to the water drain tap. No wonder VAG cars suffer poor reliability due to bodged servicing.

rotodiesel.

My friend has a 1.9TDi 130 Passat and according to his Haynes manual only a pre-2002 fuel filter needs filling with Derv before fitting, On 2002 and on you can fit the filter as previously desribed but with no mention of adding Derv, and then with a few turns of the engine it will start then a couple of times revving to 2000 revs and it should be done.

I asked another friends (yes I have more than one!!!) who knows a thing or two about engines and he told me that nearly all modern diesel engines are self purging so this desription sounds right and should be a piece of cake to do.

Has anyone done it this way with no problems? also if anyone has filled the filter with Derv first how on earth have you done it through such small pipes?

Easy, just put a funnel in the T piece hole and pour the new diesel in.
