Jabba RARB Clonking

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I received my Jabba rear anti-roll bar last week, and fitted it myself on Monday. It was fairly straightforward with the help of VRStu's guide (although the Mikalor clamps for the bushes were a biatch to shape and tighten up) and all seemed well.

The bar was fitted with the rear of the car elevated on ramps, so the suspension was under load as recommended. Everything seemed fine on the test drive, no untoward noises, and the it seemed to have tightened up the handling all right (as confirmed with a little bit of oversteer that evening in a private empty car park :D)

However, over the past 4 days a clonking has appeared, and it is getting worse. I hear it over rough road surfaces (i.e. most of the time I'm in the car) and speedbumps. I'm going to take good look at everything in the morning, but has anybody else encountered this and is there anything in specific that I should look for? It's driving me batty

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Probably just the clamps needing a tighten up after they have settled in.

I'm really hoping that's all it will be :)

All I can really tell you is that it only took a few days for mine to arrive, which is good going considering I live on an island in the Outer Hebrides

Personally, I imagine you'd probably be able to get one before Thursday, don't quote me on that though ;)

thanks again

check your lower shocker mount bolts are fully tight

Will do, I'm going to go round everything again with the spanners.

Had this the other night mate, after removing the adjusters from my coilovers.

Was fine for a couple of days, then randomly started making a rubbery clunk noise from the rear end.

Turns out as ric says it was the lower shocker mount bolt had come loose, they are self locking nuts and should really be replaced so I will be doing that ASAP, for now its done up tighter than a yorkshireman's wallet.

Ah I see, I remember thinking the lower mount bolts/nuts didn't look too great (should probably have replaced them when I fitted my FSD's and Eibachs). Will this be a call-the-dealer-for-some-bits job, or is it just a case of sourcing the right size of Nyloc nut?

I maybe could have tightened them further, as I'm always paranoid about shearing or rounding something. Plus I apllied copper grease before assembly...reckon that could have made things worse?

Bad spelling due to hangover

I think they are M10 or M14 self locking nuts, but I could be wrong

Have a look on VAG CAT

I got mine from BnQ

Ta muchly, but what the hell is VAG CAT?

Vag Cat is an online version of ETKA/ETOS. Can be found here.

Okey doke, having registered on Vag Cat it seems that the nut in question is indeed an M10 self-locking nut...hopefully that's all that's required, will update tomorrow :)

Wish me luck!

you could just tighten it for now?

You dont even need to jack the car up

just look for the bottom of the shock and where the bolt goes through, tigthen it up.

Cant remember if standard is different but on mine with a whiteline bar its just an 8mm allen key in the bolt head and a 17mm spanner on the nut

It's all good  for now anyway...

Nipped into town this morning, found the right size of self-locking nut and eventually the bolts as well (in the garden shop-WTF?). Reversed the car up onto a pair of portable ramps, out with the old nuts and bolts, in with the new, tighten up good and proper, no more clonk :D

Thanks for the input guys

I do hope the nuts and bolts are high tensile steel? I would fit genuine Skoda bits ASAP mate.

Good to hear you got this sorted.

Enjoy it :)

I'm not sure...

Think I might phone the dealer just to be on the safe side, thanks for picking up on this.

Buggeration...

Called the local dealers (which are still 90 miles away) twice. No answer first time, second time they said they'd call me back with prices. 4 hours later, and no phone call...hmm.
