Octavia not starting and stuck in Doncaster

Featured Replies

Hello..,

So my Octavia's developed a habit of not starting. Turning over, but not starting. New cts on order, but currently stuck in a car park, and wondered if anyone had any bright ideas. I've disconnected the Cts, no joy. Checked fuel filter lines, seem ok. Don't know what else to try though I'm sure there are loads of things.. Any ideas? It's a 1998 1.9 tdi.

fuel pump?

Would that be intermittent? Any way to check without undoing the injectors? I think that's been looked at before, but not 100%..

Incidentally, I've been thinking it's been temperature related. Whenever the glow plug relay comes on it seems to start ok - but surely it shouldn't need them in 30 degree heat?

Relay 109 perhaps?

Think that controls the fuel pump amongst other things and is quite common to fail (the dealers usually keep them in stock).

Also, there was a similar post on here a while back and the guy from the AA got it started by manually operating the EGR valve (I think that was what it was) which had got stuck.

I'd go with the X relay (109) as well. If it was a stuck anti shudder valve, it would sound noticeably different when cranking it on the starter.

you haven't perchance recently had your car remapped postally have you??:;-):

Oooh!

I wondered the same thing when I saw the title, but it seems not

If it is the relay you can very often re-solder the broken joints and it'll be as good as new. Look carefully on the PCB and you might find one of the joints which is beginning to crack. If there is then a simple re-solder will do the job.

I found that fuel pump relays on Ford, Rover, BMW, Mercedes, Vauxhall and Honda were all common failures in this way. And nearly all if not all were successfully repaired.......

Thanks for all your help - AA guy eventually found that it was the relay, cracked PCB board, and put in a fix - so you were right....

Cheers!

Good to hear it is fixed. :)
