Air Con repair

Featured Replies

I have an 02 reg Octavia and this year the air con failed on the first hot day of the year!

I put it into the local dealer and they said the pressure switch and compressor had both failed and that the bill to replace would be over £900.

Funnily enough I didn't get the repair work carried out, so at the moment I'm looking at the alternatives.

Has anyone used dealers or specialists in Bedfordshire and surrounding counties that they would recommend and how much did it cost for similar work to be carried out.

Would it be better to supply the parts to a specialist as there are a number of companies that supply compressors at a lot less that the £620 quoted as list price by the dealer.

Or just ignore it as it doesn't make the car run any better or worse... just betty swallocks!

Autohaus Northampton maybe worth a try.

down to you mate, air con repairs are generally expensive so the way i see it if your window still opens, its all good lol

It's up to you, but automotive aircon is one thing I recommend using Yellow Pages rather than a make Main Stealer for, largely because they're all basically the same.

Truth be told I'm not sure I care as the average fuel consumption has dropped massively, and the windows still work...and I cannot reconcile the costs involved!

I think it might just be the bolt off the end of the compressor and a switch. The main dealers are about 3 times the price for air con work unless you're lucky to know a good one.

get a salvage unit and fit it, regass it using a can from halfords - im going to do it soon as ive got a split hose so ive got the joy of replacing it

air con works easy enough but if your replacing parts and theres still gas in the system, get it recovered/evac'ed. the gas aint too good for ya lol.
