DTC 17604 and 17586-What is Linear O2 Sensor?

Featured Replies

On my 2005 Fabia Combi 1.4 16V, eng BBZ, (manual tran) 90k KM, I got the following DTC errors:

17604

P1196-35-10

I understand that this indicates a faulty B1, S1 oxygen (lambda) sensor (which as far as I know is the front one, pre-cat, 5-wire, at the exhaust manifold)

17586— P1178-35-10

And, I understand that this fault means: "Linear O2 Sensor; Pump current: open circuit"; but frankly, I don't know what a 'linear O2 Sensor' is? Is this DTC an additional fault indicator for the front Oxygen (lambda) sensor? Or, is it telling me the REAR one (post-cat) is bad? Or, is this some place else?

Before I order a rather costly O2 sensor only to have it be something else, or, the wrong one, I wanted to clarify the part(s) needing replacement.

Thanking you in advance for your help with this!!

A linear lambda probe is the same as a "broadband probe", and is the one in front of the catalyzer. There is one recall (24H2) and one software update for your engine who might cure your cars problems. I would make sure these are carried out before changing expensive parts.

Good luck!

Thanks JonA, I'll check out the recall. BTW: Is this recall only for Britain? Or is it for Fabias worldwide?

I googled 'Fabia recall 24H2' as well as 'Skoda recall 24H2', but all I found were airbag recalls (on 'theaa.com'), nothing to do with the lambda sensor. Do you know where I can access the 24H2 recall info? Thanks!

It's not a recall, it's a service update which is meant to carried out on a scheduled visit to a dealer. You could phone your dealer, giving them the Vehicle Identification Number so that they can check for any outstanding campaigns on your car. If they have been carried out, they should be noted in the service book.

This looks like it belongs in Fabia I.
