Can anyone please put up an engine picture with the N249 labelled or described, so I can see where mine is please?

My car is currently doing about 25mpg average and is quite "spluttery" when cold, and the N249 along with a few other things have been suggested.

Don't think it's coil packs because it's only when the engine is cold (although the performance generally seems to have dropped off a bit in the last month or so...)

Suggestions?? (and a picture too please)

Sounds like mine does sometimes

Unless it does it when warm I wouldn't worry.

25 MPG sounds ok.

What type of driving ??

Miss Daisy. I can get it down to an average of 17 if I drive "enthusiastically".

2 months ago I was getting 30 around town and up to 36 on a motorway run.

N249 pic anyone? (I have searched...)

BTW Dave, how's your PHONE?

Cool phone! I'm having to use my fingers to type...

N249 can be bypassed quite easily which can be used to rule it out, if you search on UKmkivs or vwvortex they will have bypass tutorials with pics of the N249 as well. other things that can affect MPG are temperature(it has been quite warm lately) MAF (i've had that one), sparkplugs (i've had that one), coilpacks (we've all had that one), boostleak (i've had that one)

Before you confirm the N249 have you run diagnostics on OBD as you may find you have a coolant temp sensor problem. This can make car run uneven when cold and also cause fuel consumption issues. Can't remember the error code, but this is a common cause. Plus at approx £20 is a cheap fix.

I did have a coolant sensor fault a few months back, but it threw up the MIL at the time, and hasn't done since (I didn't get round to fixing it as I didn't know where it was)

That's my first point of attack then, thanks.

BTW, where is it?
