A few problems with vRS - please help

Featured Replies

Hi ,

I do not know where to start:-)

Ok.

1. I have replaced front whisbone bushes for SuperPro ones. When driving over hams I can hear kind of knocks, there is no pattern for it. Is this normal? Should they make any 'noise'? Should I spay them with anything, although they were greased?

2. I have also replaced a dod bone mount. At arounf 80mph the steering wheel shakes, but not every time when when I reach that speed. I had a balance on wheeld done 2 weeks ago.

3. My car was hit at the rear - no damaged. Since then the parking sensor go crazy evenif there is nothing behind the car. The were check using a diagnostic equipment and no fault was found.

Many thanks for all you answers

Best

For item 1, I would suggest you check the ARB drop links. These connect from the ARB to the suspension strut. These are common fault for clunking. My drop links were loose and made quite a loud clonk. Tightened them up and all was well. Also you may find it could be the ARB bushes. If you have beefed up the wishbone bushes this may have been enough to kill off a possibly already worn ARB bush. When those wear there will be contact with the ARB and subframe that will also make a clonk

For item 2, could be a number of things and may not be related to the Dogbone mount change, but could be the wear of the ARB bushes or drop links, could be warped discs etc .Did you fit uprated Dogbone mounts, if so these take time to bed in and you normally experience vibration on tickover and pulling away for a few hundred miles until it bed in .

For item 3, almost certainly points to the fact you had a knock at the rear has effected eiither one or more of the sensors that was knocked or the module controlling the sensors has completly gone. Have you tried unplugging a sensor one by one from the module and then get someone to approach the rear of the car to rule out each on one in turn. Just because diagnostics did not pick it up does not always mean no fault.

I've a suspicion that (1) and (2) might be related. Get the tightness of the bolts on the dogbone and its engine end bracket checked to eliminate this.
