Help Required 2000 VW Beetle 2.0

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have a friend that has bought a 2000 "W" Volkswagen Beetle 2.0. It was sold to him cheaply because it wont pass an MOT as the ABS is not working. My friend took it to a garage who diagnosed it as an ABS module, and upon removal it was clear the old unit had and eletrical problem (visibly burnt). The ABS module has been replaced but the ABS still isnt working and there is a string of problems. Can anyone advise on what might need to be done, or what part is likely not to be working (or several!). Any advice is greatly appreciated by me and my friend

I'd be checking the wiring, fuses, and any relays to the ABS control unit.

Has the alternator output been checked? Poss voltage regulator problem perhaps?

Phil

I didnt think it would fail an MOT on ABS inop. if the lights on it will.

but i would imagine it could be a wiring fault perhaps, the vag com printout makes no sense to me lol, whats a fault code and whats not. because none of them look like ABS faults to me but i maye be wong

I'm there with the fact that the new steering angle sensor was not configured and as such the ESP system etc is having a bit of a wobbly.

oooh, good shout lol

Thanks very much for everyone's suggestions and input. I have checked the fuse for the ABS which is tested okay and performed SAS basic settings as advised. The error code for SAS has gone but there is still an ABS Inop error code and the whole system is still not working.

I can login to the ABS via VAG-COM and see wheel speed sensors e.t.c okay and the steering angle seems to be okay too. Does this need to go to an auto electrician or garage? I dont know if there is anything else I can try with VAG-COM

Where did the 'new' module come from?

Does the coding etc. match the original one?

The new module was apparantley taken from an identical beetle, how would I know what the coding should be, I dont have the old one to check?

I'm afraid I don't have the information.

Maybe one option is to visit a VW forum and ask some one with an identical car if they could do a VAG-COM scan of their car to determine of the coding is correct.
