New Mk1 VRS owner!!

Featured Replies

Hi there, I've browsed on here for a while but I've just bought a hatchback in black magic today, 04 plate from a Skoda dealer on 32k miles, 1 owner with full Skoda history. I'm part ex'ing my W reg Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec on 122k miles. I've had a Honda Civic 1.8 VTI (169bhp) before, that seemed about as quick as the Octavia in terms of on the speedo but far more urgent. The power delivery on the Octavia is very relaxed.

Anyway, the Octavia will have a full 12 month warranty on it but when I was haggling with the dealer I brought up the cambelt and waterpump. It hasn't been done, is this something I should consider shortly or should I take the view of leave it whilst it is in warranty?

Do people tend to run 99 ron or optimax on their VRS?

In terms of mods, short term I'm going to get braided brake lines and stick my Alpine bluetooth head unit in and run my ipod cable into the glove box. But eventually I want to go for at least an exhaust and a remap. Does anybody have any clips of the blueflame exhaust? The standard one seems a bit quiet. Anything else I should be thinking about? I'm just gutted I can't pick it up until 18th July because of work.

hi, i run mine on optimax.

in terms of mods, add a induction kit to that and i think your sorted!

deffo get the cam belt done!

Cambelt is four years or 60K

So yes get it done asap.

Try both types of fuel as some cars seem too like one more than the other.

Enjoy the car :)

Forget the braided brakes, you do not need them :)

remap is a must, induction kit and a rear ARB and your sorted.

You'll see over 200BHP and it'll handle very well.

Cheers for the replies.

Are the forge recirculating dump valves the best ones to go for? I've read atmospheric valves can cause problems with these engines.

Sounds about right. Some atmos ones run fine for people, others create fault codes.

I know I asked earlier, does anybody have their own clips of blueflame exhausts on a mk1 Octavia VRS? Just trying to get an idea what they are like.

Cambelt and waterpump are immediate jobs, will probably go to awesomegti for that though.

Dont know about the turbo back blueflame but i have the Cat back and its very nice, lets the car breathe, very quiet though for the size of the pipe, only a little deeper than a standard exhaust imo.

This is my turbo back taken from stand still with a camera phone so forgive the quality.

Cheers for the replies! That exhaust certainly sounds nice, I've heard people say the blueflames are too quiet a bit too near standard are they way off the mark?

I've just organised for the place I'm getting the car from (Rainworth Skoda) to do the cambelt and waterpump for 296 inc vat which isn't bad. I don't want to risk it because warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Despite the same dealership salesman insisting that it didn't need doing until 60k miles despite being an 04 plate car!

Doh !!!!

He needs too do his homework:rolleyes:

A Blueflame certainly isn't like a standard exhaust but it's not the loudest performance exhaust I have had. I don't think there will be a lot of difference in the loudness of any of the exhaust available for the Vrs. The reason being that the turbo tends to drown out a lot of the noise you would normally get from a normally aspirated car.

Agree with Mart,

The Blueflame is probably one of the louder variants. Especially if you have the Turbo back system. Miltek is quiter and a few others I have heard. The Cat and the center section are what keeps the noise down slightly, so unless you decat it or go custom made, not many other off the shelf systems will be louder. You also need to consider the cabin noise levels which any louder would annoy me.
