G68 Vehicle Speed Sensor

Recommended Posts

Did an error code scan on Saturday, and got this:

------------

00281

Vehicle Speed Sensor

G68

Sporadic Defective

------------

I cleared it after writing it down, and it's not come back.

Does anyone know where it's located, and how much one costs?

I've done some searching on forums and through the Skoda manual, and all I can find about the G68 is that it's located on top of an automatic gearbox!! Now obviously I have the 5 speed manual O2J in mine, but can't find any information about the O2J having a G68 sensor. What gives??

Do I even have one?! My speedo appears to be behaving normally.

Answers on a postcard please

After another search of the entire octavia workshop manual this is all I've found:

"Testing vehicle speed signal

Notes:

The vehicle speed signal is produced by the

vehicle speed sender -G68 and is processed

in the dash panel insert.

The processed signal passes to contact 20

of the engine control unit and is used for idling

speed stabilisation and for minimising load

change jolts during gearshifts."

Still no news on where it is on the O2J gearbox though!

Well I've since done over 1000miles and this code has not come back, so I'm assuming it's not critical.

How is it possible for me to get an error code for a sensor that isn't on my car? Very weird.

I believe all cars have a VSS, because it is critical for the passengers safety. Anyways, you can always google the information about it since the car parts are pretty well scattered on the net.

Wow forgot all about this! 14 months back!

The error code never came back, and I've never had a single issue, so was an odd one. I know my car obviously has a vehicle speed sensor, but not one listed as a G68. The G68 only seems to be listed for auto cars. Trust me I googled it at the time! I google everything!
