Automatic gear selection sticking

Featured Replies

Has this happened to anyone? I have a T reg automatic octavia and intermittently a problem arises when I start and try to move from Park to Drive: the gear selector won't budge. Yes, I do have my foot on the brake pedal, and after some time trying, the car decides to behave properly and unlock the gear selector. However, I was potentially stranded at Tesco's with my three month old daughter so I need to get this solved. Any advice would be appreciated.

When this happens check the brake lights are working - problem likely to be either the brake light switch is not working or the solenoid which locks the gear lever until the brake pedel is depressed is sticking. I have a DSG but the solenoid on yours should be infront of the gear lever. Try wiggeling the lever when you problem exists as that might free the solenoid.

Other possibilty is an bad eletrical connection on the solenoid.

You will need to remove the console/gaiter to access the solenoid
