Fabia VRS Rear Wheel Bearing - Caution

Just to make others aware......

I needed to change one of the rear wheel bearings on the vrs. The car is out of warranty so my mechanic fitted a non-skoda replacement part. (Cost was about £50 instead of £80 from skoda) It was the right part for the car etc, however, the abs/speed sensor pick up was not correct.

Having one rear wheel sensor registering about 10% higher speed causes some "interesting" results..... the car would hold speed/revs and even increase speed to try to correct the speed difference between front and rear wheels! :eek:

The motor factors who supplied the part had 2 other alternative suppliers but in the end to save the hassle i just went for the skoda oem kit as the alternatives were closer to the skoda part price and i still wasn't sure they would work.

The cars back to normal now - just hope i don't need to replace too many more at £80 plus fitting.

My vrs doesn't have ESP only the standard ASR so was surprised it was able to do this.

Er, yeah... I was under the impression ASR just limited the power??? :rubchin:

After a couple of recent things I've come to the conclusion it's better paying that little bit extra.

Yeah, know what you mean - but at least ASR goes off when you press the button unlike ESP, which just gets turned down a bit...
