Front discs and pads replacement cost ?

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I think my recent purchase is in need of new discs and pads, so I've booked it into the dealer to have this done. What is the going rate for replacing the front discs and pads ?

Its a 2.0TDI 140.

Cheers !

First rule - get a price before booking it in! They could charge you any price they like now :)

Been a while since I've had brakes done at a dealer, so I'll be a bit rusty on pricing TBH. Perhaps around the £200 mark?

Agree with what Steve said. Always get a price agreed before you take the car in.

GSF parts - £150 approx

Dealer parts £250 approx

Labour rates, up to the garage really, so you choose there.

Cheers guys, got a price prior to making the booking earlier today. Pulmans in Durham said £270 supplied and fitted, but there is an offer on, so getting them done for £207. Not too bad I guess........... just wondered how reasonable this was.

Good price (if that's for all four) I'd say :)

Is that front and rear, front only or rear only?

If that is all 4 then it's a good price for sure.

I reckon that's front only...

Yeah, just the front I'm afraid.... They're not even worn that much, but I think one of the discs is slightly warped.I'll ask them to check for runout bwfore they change them.

Got an email back from them today quoting £185 for the discs and pads... Result !

That's not too bad as while the prices I quoted were discs and pads all around they were parts only.

If they are not that worn then I'd suggest doing a few hard not quite stops (eg 70mph-10ish)

Typically about 10 then a break then 10 then a break on an empty D/C or M/Way with nobody around should remove any deposits on the disc surface and get rid of the vibration that is associated with "warped discs".

There is an interesting article on it here:
