octavia model history

Featured Replies

hello. i'm just looking into getting my first octavia (see my post in introductions...)

i was wondering if there was a list anywhere of the model history for the octavia so i can better decide on which one to go for...

engine sizes, bhp, trim levels, fuel economy, etc.

i know this info can be found by trawling through autotrader, but if there is a list with this info somewhere it would make life a lot easier...

cheers!

Trim levels for cars before about 2000 were LX , GLX , SLX and the VRS

Post 2000 they were replaced with Classic , Ambiente , Elegance , L&K and the VRS

There were also some 4x4 with a 1.8t Petrol engine (150bhp)

Petrol engines were

1.4 - 75bhp?

1.6 - 105bhp?

2.0 - 115bhp

1.8T - 150bhp in 4x4 , 180bhp in VRS

Diesel engines were

1.9 SDI 67bhp - 5 speed - Classic only?

1.9 TDI 90bhp - 5 speed - Classic and Ambiente trim only

1.9 TDI 110bhp - 5 speed - Elegance and L&K only

1.9 TDI 130bhp - 6 speed - Elegance and L&K only , plus a few Ambiente SE in 2004

What's your budget?

Coo , didn't know the 1.8 20v had found it's way into an Octavia.

I wonder why they dropped that in favour of the 2.0 8v

The 1.8T engine with 150bhp was also available in FWD Octys as well as the 4x4 (mainly higher spec ones like the L&K)

The earliest 1.8T 150bhp engines (1999-2000) had the K03 turbo rather than the K03S so they can only be remapped from 150 to around 175 bhp.

nice one! cheers for the info!

@Dr Zoidberg - my budget is around £1500, maybe a bit more depending on what the insurance give me for my old car...

i'm leaning towards the 1.8 20v slxi models at the moment (unless anyone gives me a reason not too...)

don't really mind if it's a hatch or estate, i'd prefer a manual but only as i've never driven an auto.

what's the octavia in auto guise like? any good?

You'll find a fair few cars for your budget , though most will be at 80k miles or more.

It might be worth looking for the diesel as they cope better with miles and the 110bhp engine is very good.

yeah, i'm not totally against the idea of a diseasel, but i don't do that many miles (under 6k pa) so mileage isn't really too much of an issue...

something between 50k - 90k miles should be ok and like you say there are a few about.

There's a couple of Elegances for £1800 on Autotrader that could be worth a look - it's a better looking car than the SLX with a slightly higher spec

went to look at that one in leicester on monday - looks ok in the photo's but it's a bit tatty up close.

4" rust patch on passenger door edge (which the bloke said he could touch up with a paint pen ) stained interior, quite a lot of scratches, holes in the speaker grill, boot badge all snapped up, remote locking not working, etc.

i know these are relatively minor issues but i was hoping for something a bit cleaner...

what is it that makes the elegance better looking than the slxi then?

Ah well , worth a try.

They changed the headlights and bumper during the facelift.

The SLX had lights where the top and bottom were parallel (like on a felicia)

On the elegance they were angled at the base and they also had better alloy wheels.

The interior was also improved with a better instrument panel and seats , plus the SLX quite often had two-tone dashboard plastics (which looked cack)

Nothing earth shattering there , but the overall effect is a noticably nicer car.

That said if it's a choice of a shabby Elegance or a better looked after SLX I'd go for the earllier car.

cool. yeah, the post op version does look better, but like you say, i'm not going to pass up a better car due to a few aesthetic tweaks.

No , I quite agree.

Veering off course slightly , it may also worth looking at a Seat Toledo of a similar age as well.

Mechanically it's very similar and has a better looking interior , though it is a saloon rather than a hatchback.

Something like this for example with a rather nice V5 engine perhaps :D

2000 SEAT TOLEDO 2.3 V5

hmmm, yeah, that looks pretty nice actually!

d'you happen to know how the boot space compares between the two?

got a nipper you see - hence i've generally got plenty of stuff to cart around!

I think it's pretty much identical as they shared the same chassis and had the same length give or take a few mm.

The Octavia is certainly easier to load stuff in being a hatch but the Toledo is still pretty cavernous.

For your budget and annual mileage I think that is well worth a look - the spec is great and it looks in good condition, plus the V5 engines are really nice.

shame it's in somerset and i'm north of leicester...

still, it's another option to throw into the mix!

I've travelled that far to buy a bike in the past , though it's not as convenient as would be nice :D

i'm willing to travel for the right one, but a 6hr round trip is a little extreme, especially with an 18month old on board!

the 4x4 with the 1.8T is a great buy, Elegance or L&K spec, 16" alloys and capable of 35+mpg on a run and the 4x4 system is the same as the golf 4motion but with out the thirsty V6(v5 in the Seats) and a £99 remap can take them to 200BHP+ as well as all this they are a good deal cheaper than the VRS and remember that the diesels are at a premium as well. i'd love a turbo - especially the 4x4 L&K, but i doubt i'll be able to find a tidy low mileage one for £1500 unfortunately.

also my insurance quote has gone up considerably since my accident, although it wasn't my fault and there was nothing i could do to avoid it!!

so i'm going to have to stick with a non turbo for a while, and any performance mods are well out of the question! :thumbdwn:

so much for no turbo - just been offered a 1.8t 20v b5 passat with history, 12 months ticket, and decent mileage for a price that's too good to ignore...

bit of a shame it's not an octy, but i think passats are pretty good motors.

now to hunt down a cheap quote!

Nothing wrong with a Pastie.

As you say , if a decent car comes along at the right price you'd be daft to turn it down in favour of something else you may never find.
