Octy vRS TDI purchasing problem!

Featured Replies

Always stood by the rule that if you have any doubts, walk away. The very fact that you have been on here asking our opinion about it suggests to me that you already know whether or not you should buy it.

There are so many of these things out there that it's not worth the risk of getting besotted with an individual car, buying it against the warnings of your instincts and then regretting it for a long time. You say you've been waiting for one for quite a while... well wait a little longer, and buy one that doesn't cause you to come on a forum and ask whether it's a lemon or not.

My opinion, of course, but if you have doubts, then why on earth does it have to be THIS particular car? Just wait for a better one.

PS - am I the only person who would never every buy a car off a man who claimed to be a car dealer, but when asked a pretty basic question like "which engine is in it?" can't even tell you the answer?!? Every instinct I have says "walk away".

Hello, and yes I've bought the car. I've had to do a hell of a lot of ringing around and investigating and asking the right questions but i've sorted it. I've spoken to a very nice chap at DVLA who gave me some very useful info on the vehicle. I've also spoken to HPI and had further investigations done into the vehicle and it appears to be totally legit. I can confirm that there is NO police interest in this vehicle and the VIN no. matches the plates etc.. DVLA clarified the police issue aswell.

As i said, the vehicle is immaculate and i've confirmed the vehicle is a DPF and has engine code BMN.

The pricing of the vehicle was interesting; they say they wrongly priced the vehicle at what they 'paid' for it and hence why they tried to alter the price and increase it by £1000. I got it for the original 'wrong' price.

Thankyou to Oliver Horton and Allams Skoda for their kind offers. I shall hopefully speak to Oliver tomorrow as the vehicle was originally sold by his dealership, and clarify a couple of things.

Congrats, glad it all worked out for you.

I had the car on my shortlist too but picked up a black one yesterday!! :)

Police issue?

Glad it worked out

Thanks to Oliver Horton for his time.

Nice one estelle, the black variant in the octy vrs is smart. I looked at buying one in this colour too.

Just sold my Fabia vrs in black magic to my sis. I wanted a change in colour and fancied the race blue.

Yes the black does look great. I like the blue as a colour but wanted something a bit more discreet!

Hope you keep it clean :D

PM me the VIN number and the registration number on the vehicle at the moment.

I'm always very dubious about car supermarket cars, especially since I took a Saab in PX that was one a large one just North of London and it turned out it was

a) stolen (and police still had an interest because of a crime that was commited in the car)

B) was crashed quite badly but the supermarket bought it before it claimed on so there was no trace of the crash on HPI but an inspection revealed heavy damage to the sill)

Just be very, very careful and if it's cheap then there is ALWAYS a reason, even if it is just an innocent one. I'd be inclined to get the car inspected by the AA or pay a touch more for one with a more traceble history.

I on the other hand have had many cars from a couple of supermarkets for myself and for friends and every single one has been a very good deal and in excellent condition.

You just have to have done a little bit of research before hand and as with all second hand cars have a quick look around.
