my car is bouncy!

Featured Replies

okay...I have a slight problem...

My car doesn't like going round right hand bends:eek:

I can push it really hard round left handers with no real issues, but right hand bends (like large roundabouts, and for anyone who lives near Portsmouth the offslip from the M275 Northbound towards Cosham) are a NIGHTMARE! The car seems as if the front nearside is tucking under and the rear offside wheel is lifting off.

Can't just be normal body roll or it'd do it on left hand bends too. The tyre pressures are all correct, and the tyres are all matched; and it's worse in the wet.

Any ideas? My MOT is at the end of the month...

I'd suspect a worn shocker, or bushes.

I'd agree with that diagnosis.

Diagnosis knackered damper! (This is speaking from experience - If you watch my Bovington video linked below, watch how it bounces and rubs around the 2 long bends toward the end.... That's why I bought Gary's coilovers)

Sounds like time for coilovers to me!

My car behaved a bit like that when the rear bush on the front wishbone had ripped clean through. Wobbletastic

Hmmm, yeah - could be that - when I was messing around with some "lowering springs that weren't any lower" a while back I noticed that the rear wishbone bushes looked a bit "saggy" but as it was the back of the car that was slipping, I assumed it was the back of the car that was at fault.

Maybe some new suspension components are on the cards then...

I should add that although mine bounces like that, I don't get any wobbling at all, and the car still feels quite planted. I just know that all that's making the car go around the corner is the spring, and the damper is doing sod all.

def sounds like you need to renew your suspension, mine is bouncy too, im compiling all the bits i need inc new coilovers/ tt wishbones, r32 rack, r32 front arb, tt bushes etc etc, should make the car handle like it should have to start with.......we can hope!

Blimey, nice shopping list! :D What coilovers?

well was going to go with weitecs, but i think i am gonna test the spax rsxs, they seem to be a decent spec, and are not much more than the weitecs but offer full adjustability,

mike at IP has fitted them to golfs with good response from the owners.....so shall see!

Jonny as your just dow the road mate your more than welcome to come and borrow my 60k mile old standard suspension that I've got in the garage. Just to eliminate that from your fault finding :)
