MAF sensor - how long should it last

Featured Replies

As it says, how long should a Maf last, changed mine about 5000 miles ago as it was kerput (28000 miles). car was perfect until a week ago when the ESP light came on whilst driving which is a syptom, did it again today. Im going to take the car to the dealers to read the errors but just wondered if a MAF has been known to fail that quickly ??

Aparently this warning light indicates other things as well

Speaking to the Dealer he seems to think its more likely to be the Lambda sensor picking up but he will still check the car to confirm

You haven't got an after market air filter have you that needs to be oiled once in a while as people can over oil them and cause MAF malfunction ?

Nope std filter

IMO MAFs usually drift slowly until the ECU no longer accepts their readings as of any use - normally lasts 30 to 80k depending on use and contamination levels. In your case provided you used the correct O.E. replacement ( there are dozens of MAF variants - if you fit the wrong one - would fail early) it is more likely something else - lots of things give similar symptoms - other sensors, leaking vacuum pipes, faulty turbos etc etc
