Late 1.6 Felicia - floppy lever fix.

As Morrisey said: 'Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before'..

My 2000/W 1.6 pickup had the infamous floppy gear lever. I could select all the gears, but it was all very vague.

I had a good look around underneath, and (on mine) the vast majority of the play was in the UJ 'T' piece at the back of the 'box (#33) & its internal bush #35.

I filed off the burred over edges- completely flush to the face of the UJ yoke and (very carefully) tapped the pin out. You don't want to be bending the shaft into the 'box, so go very steady here.

I popped in a new (coppaslipped) bush & the 4 x 'O' rings, but instead of a standard pin #34, I used bolt #45 with a 8mm nyloc. You can't be peening over the end of the standard pin with the UJ in situ, so this made the job much easier.

OK- so this alone hasn't eliminated all the play at the lever, but it has made a fantastic improvement for < £10 & 1/2hr's work on the ramps. For a 95k miler, I'm very happy with the result.

Shopping list: 1 x bush #35, 2 x 'O' ring #37, 2 x 'O' ring #36 & 1 x bolt #45.

Don't bother with nut #47- it's not a nyloc- just pick one up somewhere locally.

BTW: if you haven't already got a clip / jubilee on your 'T' piece, fit one over the hole- it'll stop a loose roll pin dropping out.

Hope this is of help to someone :-)
