AUB Oil ..........

Featured Replies

Whats people running oil wise in their AUB engines ?

I've got 5W-40 Fully and while its alittle tappy at startup its not burning any (miniscule amounts a month if at all) and seems happy enough.

Would swapping to a 15-40 help with the tapping at startup or is it just the way of the engine ??

Heard horror stories of this engine burning oil and generally being harsh on oil usage - :(

Mine drank near no oil but was always a little rattly on start up and cold.. think it's just the way of this engine..

One thing that DID make it less rattly was a new timing belt. My Mechanic actually said before he did it that it would make it less noisy because the tensioners go slack and some of the noise is the belt flying around.

Do you need a new belt, done 50 - 60K?

Or, if you got the car when you joined in sept 05, and you've not had a belt, your due as it's the pre set mileage of 4 years for a belt.

Recent purchase - Dec last year.

It's done 70k and apparently cough cough had the belt done as part of the sale from dealer - i have my doubts though tbh.

Does seem abit tappy when cold but fine when warmed up alittle, like you say just one of those things i guess.

I would not recomend changing to a mineral 15w40 if you are having good results with the 5w40.

Currently I am using fully synthetic 5w40 Shell Helix with little oil consumption, very happy with it. Also noticed the engine a little more tappy as oil gets dirtier and near its change time, I suppose it has to do with hydraulic lifters.

Cheers..

Seems the tapping is just the way it is then :(

Guess its doing no harm in which case leave it be :)

Oil doesn't look like it needs changing - although might do it for peace of mind tbh.

Thanks for the info chaps :)
