caravan towing with a 1.9TDi estate.

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a 2008 Octavia 1.9TDI PD estate with manual gearbox and I am considering buying a small caravan (max MTPLM 1050 kg). Does any one already tow with the above set up? How does the car perform? Your comments and advise would be usefull. Also how do you switch of the rear parking sensors when towing?

Hope it works, because we pick up our caravan on Tuesday!!!

Seriously, we have towed a van trailer with MGW of 1 ton (Imperial ton, 'cos it's rather old!) and had no problems at all. Loads of torque, although 5th gear gets used rather more than usual. I have no fear of towing the caravan (Gobur Carousel max 1000kg)

I tow 1175Kg with a vRS CR TDi without any problems. Seen lots of 1.9's out and about and all their owners rave about them ... most of them towing more than you intend. I certainly have towed that sort of weight in the past with 90 bhp HDi pugs with no problems.

I have a 2.0TDI and tow 1300kg with no problems

My reversing sensors cut out when the tow electrics fitted - Bloke who fitted my towbar has VAG COM and programmed it. Also the rear fog on the car doesn't come on when towing just the ones on the van.

 You will have no problems, I have just changed to a Scout 2ltr TDi est 4x4 which should be brill, but my last car was a year 2000 1.9 TDi 110bhp and there was no problems in towing my fleetwood colchester 1275kg (max), yours should be better with the PD engine with all that low down torque.
