Hi, first time poster here asking some questions on behaf of my father in law. He has a 52 plate fabia 1.4 saloon and recently, the engine management light has started coming on.

It comes on irreguarly and sometimes the ESP light comes on as well. He said though before, if he turned the engine off then back on again, neither of them would light up again. But now the warning light is beginning to remain on constantly.

He hasnt reported any hesitation from the engine or anything like that, and it hasnt gone into "Limp Home" mode when the lights have come on.

Recently he took it to a garage and was told one the catalysts (which had three holes in anyway) needed replacing which he did, but it hasnt made any difference and the lights still appear. He has taken it back to the same garage and has now been told it's a faulty EGR valve.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem or perhaps suggest a cheap place to purchase a replacement EGR valve as the garage wanted £150+

It might well be the EGR valve, but you should read this thread first. If it turns out to be the EGR, then try GSF or Euro.
