Bad Noise! But what is it?

Featured Replies

Todays drive home was rather more aggressive than normal, just thought I'd have some fun!

3/4's of way home and hoof it.. 1st to get rolling and then 2nd gear up to 30.

As the car gets up to 3k revs I'm getting a worrying metally scrappy rattely sound.. kinda like what you'd expect a huge tin pencil sharpener to sound like if it was in a old metal bin. It's not loud though..

No loss of power, no black smoke... infact, nothing else at all... just this noise! I mean, the power was down ever so slightly but I put this down to heat soak... it wasn't down enough to seem out of the ordanairy.

So, in short... does it sound like somethings broke or is something just rattling? lol.. I do get a rattle over bumps and at lower revs when labouring the engine a bit too much, thought it was the exhusts heat shield but that's all still in place.

One other thing I noticed today, that I think is normal and I've just never noticed is the clutch pedal pulseing when just touching the bite, not before and not once engaged.. It's not obvious and I only noticed it becuase I pressed the clutch with my right foot.. (don't ask, I was parked up just mucking about) This is just the plates rubbing.. though, yeah?

So is this about to explode, is it safe?

Will it just gradually get worse and worse over the next 2k?

Will it cause further damage?

56k on clocks. Power is completely standard.. has been since built I believe. At most was mapped 1st year (1st owner) and then returned to normal, but only saying that because I really don't know. I was more worried this could be the turbo starting to fail? But DMF is just as pricey!

Apparently they can go a bit pete tong and ruin the clutch but i'd get it checked out by a Skoda place/ mechanic asap - it might not be the DMF...

Replacement clutch and flywheel is approx £800 - £1000 fitted.

Oh, is it remapped?

Oh, is it remapped?

No, just saying I'm sure it never has been either.

If it is the DMF I blame my Dad! lol.. he took it out last month and was breaking right down into the "duffduffduffduffduffduff" anti stall!

Pulsing clutch pedal is the clue. Could also be a broken clutch finger spring. Clutch and DMF have come way down on price. Used to be about £900, now £390 for the full kit + labour. Not sure if release bearing is included in that price though.

If it is DMF or clutch, I would do the lot in one go, clutch DMF and release bearing.

Mini Update.

Been out.. all fine now?! :D

Maybe it was just the exhaust shielding! (but doubt it) or a heat soaked turbo (but doubt this too).. Somehow I get the feeling something big's around the corner, and I'm not gunna like it!

Thanks for all the help... Watch this thread re-surface in a few months (or weeks).. or days :( ;)

P.S. Pulsing is in time with chug of engine at idle, and like I said it's so small I can't really feel it with my left foot, just the right (I guess because it's not used to it so all much more obvious).

Sounds like the magic Fabia Fairy has fixed it  If your lucky maybe it was just a stone stuck between the disc splash plate and disc.
